Title says it all, I've had people tell me "Don't brush your hair while wet!" I've actually had people tell me not to brush my hair at all,... Are these things damaging? Why? TIA.

Brushing your hair while it's wet causes breakage, you should use a wide tooth comb instead.

I usually do! Thank you, good to know that it's a brush, not a comb that causes it

You can brush your hair while wet just get a wet brush or use a wide tooth comb. It also depends if you have straight hair or curly hair tbh. I have curly hair and I only brush my hair when I put conditioner in it. But it all depends on what work for you. I think the most important this is to try to keep brushing your hair down to a minimum.

I've always used a wide tooth comb or one of those hair picks after washing my hair. My mom always had it ever since I was little and never figured out why she uses that until recently lol!

Yeah, I have pretty straight hair, loose waves when long. But I lose a lot of hair when I brush it out so I suppose that makes sense. Thanks for the tips :)

It actually depends on your hair texture whether or not to comb while wet.

I'm with the Wet Brush crowd. Use a leave-in conditioner and be gentle. You're fine. The brush is designed for not snagging...or snapping...and eases tangles. You can damage your hair dry by NOT properly caring for it wet...and then having to deal with nasty tangles. Just be tender with your touch. ;)

I agree with rozberry wet brushes are the way to go! I used to use a wide tooth comb, but it wasn't gentle enough. so now I always reach for my wet brush!

I CANNOT run a comb through my hair when its wet for the life of me. So what I do after a shower is I just apply leave in conditioner and then I braid my hair. I then go to sleep and when I wake up I brush it out! Because with the leave in conditer it works through the night and it tangle free in the morning.

Brushing wet hair can be very damaging because your hair is most fragile when it's wet. I used to use a wide tooth comb until I learned of the amazing The Wet Brush. I can't believe I didn't know about it before, it detangles my fine, wet hair easily and I've noticed a decrease in hair left on the brush, compared to before. I apply ISA Professional's EVAO (Extra Virgin Argan Oil) before brushing it and the combination leaves my hair soft and healthy! Both are part of my HG of hair care, it's also great for children, so they don't dread brushing time after the shower.
