Alternatives to bobby pins?

I have really thick hair so when I do any cute hairstyle I find on pinterest or youtube and I pin my hair with bobby pins, they instantly sag. I've tried everything, from hairspray to an X form but nothing seems to help. Any alternatives to bobby pins or ways I can make them stay in place? I'd like to do the braided headband tomorrow and I'm out of options..

I used to have the same problem. So what I do is make the usual 'X' form but then I take a third pin and slide it horizontally across the top of the X so that it's holding down both of the pins and won't sag. If you need a picture let me know cause my description was a little confusing :)

I would say look into more of a hair pin than a bobby pin I have medium thick hair and they make my hair stick super well all day long
