Okay so I know this question must get asked a lot but I thought I'd give it ago. My hair is not long just passed my shoulders and is super thick like major and is naturally curly but it just won't grow, I've tried no heat which was really difficult because of me having naturally curly hair, I've tried a face mask and I do get trims but nothing seems to be working I constantly wear clip in extensions because I don't like the length of my hair. If anyone has any suggestions please say?!

You can't really do anything to make your hair grow unfortunately.

Information regarding hair growth -

Genetics and healthiness of hair

Your hair growth rate and type is down to your genetics. There is no way to grow your hair faster apart from keeping it healthy. Hair masks and deep conditioners can keep your hair healthy and making sure you cut off split ends (otherwise they go further up the hair shaft and cause breakage), Cutting off hair which doesn't have split ends to make it grow faster is pointless as you are cutting off hair which could still grow. A trim every 6-8 weeks is sufficient, however it is better to ask your hairdresser for a 'healthy trim'.
Drinking lots of water keeps your hair healthy.
Try to use less heat on your hair as this will dry your hair out. Don't brush your hair when wet as this can lead to breakage. Another factor of breakage is putting your hair in a bun or ponytail too tightly. Instead, try braiding or wrapping your hair into a headscarf or bandana as it is less likely to damage your hair.

Shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments

Shampoos and conditioners that say they mend split ends are a complete con, there is absolutely no ways to mend split ends. Cutting them off is the only option.
Similarly, shampoos and conditioners such as Mane and Tail are not good for human hair as they are not the correct pH level for us. The belief that they make your hair grow faster is a buildup of wax which causes your hair to be heavier. This leads to your believing that your hair is longer. Using Mane and Tail can cause brittleness which can lead to breakage. In the short term, you may think it is good for your hair. In the long term however, it is not.
You should also try to use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. This include ingredients such as Sodium Laurel Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

Biotin, Hairfinity and other hair growth pills and vitamins

Biotin and other hair growth pills should not be taken unless you have a Biotin deficiency. This deficiency is diagnosed by a doctor. If you take Biotin when you don't have a deficiency, it can lead to acne, sickness, hospilitisation and even death. A member of Beautylish has had personal experience with this, when a member of her family became ill after taking Biotin. You should be eating enough Biotin-rich foods to not have a deficiency, these include almonds, walnuts, chickens eggs, milk, onions, cucumbers and carrots.
Do NOT take extra vitamins unless diagnosed by a doctor. Otherwise, it can cause another vitamin level in your body to decrease, resulting in the same problems as taking excess Biotin.

Hair thickening or thinning

Your hair type is also genetic. You can make your hair SEEM thicker or thinner (for example having layers put in to increase thickness look). Treatments, shampoos and conditioners which deem to thicken or thin hair are a lie. They can make it appear thicker or thinner, but cannot make it thicker or thinner.

I did the inversion method which made my hair grow an inch in a week! it worked for many people, but make sure you do it properly and only do once a month! you can research more about it if you want to try it out as its kind of hard for me to explain!

Do NOT do the inversion method. The inversion method is incredibly dangerous and does nothing to aid in hair growth. You are just putting your body at risk for no reward. There is no proven benefits to it, just side effects and potential permanent defects like limb numbness in the legs, blood flow problems (which could lead to limb loss), headaches, brain swelling to the point of cell damage, etc.etc.

Hair only grows a certain amount each month. Usually about 1/4-1/2 if an inch. Keep it healthy, trim split ends, keep yourself healthy and be patient. That's how you'll get long hair.

I did it without any problems! they do say if your pregnant, weight problems, ect. don't do it, but if you are healthy and fine, they said it is alright to do! plus, it actually did make my hair grow and inch longer. I measured my hair. I'm not trying to sound rude, but I think it's fine!

I agree with Alyx. What you were probably seeing Katelyn was the placebo effect, where you wanted to see results so that's what you saw.

Many girls have done it though and have seen results. massaging your head with oil stimulates the blood flow which makes your hair grow longer. I know what you mean. stuff like this CAN be dangerous if not done properly, but I think it's fine if taking precautions (:

I guess it doesn't really matter what I saw haha. you could try it if you want and see if there is a change in the length of your hair or you can not do it if you don't want to take the risk haha.

I might try that then:) just hate the length of my hair!

Oils can clog your hair follicles. Just massage your scalp when you're not doing anything. No oils. Don't do any hear say experiments, they don't work. Nothing will speed up hair growth. Just simply care for your hair.

Cocoa, not exactly because I hadn't planned that all out, but I have some selfies from before and I can take a picture of my hair now.. and okay chloe (: I hope it works out for you!

Here's a picture taken before I started doing the inversion method and a picture of my hair now. the before picture isn't perfect because I wasn't intentionally taking it to compare, but it's the closest I've got because most pictures are of my curly hair haha! anyways, I think there's a difference. the first picture, my hair is about boob length and then the second picture, it's past my boobs haha which I'm flat chested so it's kind of awkward haha

All oils (including the oils your hair produces) clogs follicles so as long as you don't go lengthy times not washing your hair you can use an oil to help your scalp and hair growth.
The inversion method looks like it's working because it uses Oils, which weighs down hair and makes it look longer :) Nothing fancy about how it works lol
So you don't need to hang upside down to have your hair grow.. just some oil and scalp massages can work wonders.

Plus, I think my hair looks much healthier and less frizzy now too! maybe that's just me though 😁

That makes sense kitty!

Yes Katelyn those are most likely the oils, I have same results on my profile just scalp massages and hot oil treatments.. it works well on hair and helps so much with frizz and shine :)

Okay! maybe instead of doing the "inversion method" ill just try some hot oil treatments and scalp massages because I do get dizzy from the inversion method haha! thanks! (:

Oils don't help with growth. Oils help with locking in moisture and is one of the steps you can take to taking care of your hair.

Which helps growth...^ I hate when people ask this question and people refuse to admit that yes there's technically a way to make your hair grow faster than it is right now and that is by maximizing it's moisture retention and overall health. Some people make it seem like it's impossible for someone's hair to grow more than it is currently. Yes, it is genetics but you can take full advantage of those genetics by having your hair as healthy as possible

I said above, as well as multiple others, that caring for your hair helps with growth, I figured that whoever was reading it had enough common sense to put the pieces together. It's pretty obvious actually. So, that was unnecessary.

No need to get snappy at me every time I disagree:) thanks. I was clarifying because yes everytime someone makes a similar thread people completely shoot them down.

May 10, 2015

Shanae J.

That's not true. Of course nobody wants to hear that nothing but care will help, but it's not shooting them down.
