Hi ladies! In class today we were talking about unfair working conditions and the factory workers that make our clothing. I know that I personally don't shop at Urban Outfitters because I don't agree with their attitude towards workers rights or artists. Anyways, that got me thinking about all the makeup brands out there. Are there any brands you won't but from, and why?

Limecrime. The CEO stated some awful things to her customers and refuse to buy anything.

I don't specifically boycott any, but I do lean more towards certain ones and do my best to stay I was from others. I stay away from Loreal because they test on animals (a lot of brands do, but I've seen pictures regarding them and it made me sick) and I tend to lean towards ELF when it comes to drug store brands because they're cruelty free and most of their stuff is vegan :)

Limecrime for sure, doe Deere is an awful person. as well as Abercrombie, their CEO is wretched and I definitely don't miss their clothes hahaah.

Lime crime, I've read soo many horrible things. Abercrombie, they said they only want skinny people in their clothes. Revlon I've read they said racist comments. Although I'm not sure if these things are true, I don't support them or what they stand for.

Revlon, their CEO spoke some very racist comments a few months ago. I'll pass.

Well I definitely would never buy limecrime, but other than that I don't necessarily boycott stores or companies... I mean there are certain places I don't go but not really because I don't agree with the company.

I don't boycott any stores or brands, but I try to stray away from brands that test on animals.

Loreal and MAC for animal testing (although I just bought a Mac Lippie and didn't know they animal tested till after I bought it so I won't purchase in the future)

I don't know what you guys have heard, but I have personally met doe deere, and she's an amazing person. Everything that has been stated about her isn't true. She's addressed these rumors before but had to take them down because she knew that she would get criticized. (:

I try to stay away from brands that test on animals, I'm not going to lie though I don't do the best job at it sadly. to me that's a very legitimate reason and it takes a lot for me to 'boycott' a company or store. I've heard a lot about Lime crime and been interested in ordering some products but have been hesitant and honestly probably never will. I'll be honest though, and this is my opinion, I know there's been controversy on abercrombie and stuff like that bugs me sometimes. I'm sure people will disagree with me and that's fine and I'll be honest I'm not 100% informed on the whole situation so I won't pretend to be. If something very rude and disgusting was said (which that seems to be the case) then yes I agree that person is wrong but so many people defend the plus sizes to be in catalogs and sizes available in stores and it's so wrong to bash plus size women but people bash skinnier women all the time and think it's ok, calling them too thin or say it looks bad to be skinny it's just a very annoying thing for me. I don't see a problem with a &f selling smaller sizes, tbh I'm a smaller girl always have been my whole life and it's not always easy to find my sizes. many designer clothing stores I like start at a 2 and I'm a 0. Many stores start at small as the biggest and depending on the brand I'm a small or xsmall. And those brands never get bashed for not selling smaller sizes, & they shouldn't be imo, but brands get bashed for the mere fact they don't go past a size 10. I know things were said as well but they also were bashed just for the sizes they carry. not every brand can stock and sell every size made. That'd be like saying it's rude there are stores that only sell plus sizes and discriminate against us smaller women. Just a rant hopefully I don't offend anyone I just thought of it with all these abercrombie posts. and like I said I understand if your reasoning is the comments I'm just referring to the media's opinion on the sizing before the comments were said. I feel it's a double standard. it's amazing we are embracing bigger women but I've seen comments on pictures of ads and if someone is called fat all hell breaks loose but people can post on Victorias secrets pictures saying it's gross how skinny they are and women don't look like that, etc. Women do look like that with out photo shop and some don't, neither should be considered wrong or a bad example for what a woman 'should' look like.

Urban outfitters. They're horrible. Their clothes promote mental disorders (anorexia and depression) and they have clothes inspired from what the prisoners wore in the holocaust so yea I hate them

I don't boycott any brand really. Sometimes I refuse to buy from a brand, but thats just because I don't like the product. Like CoverGirl and many other brands. But I wouldn't say I boycott them.
It makes me sad to see all of these comments about all the awful things Urban Outfitters does, I really like their sweaters and they actually have stuff that fits. Darn
And I completely agree with the Abercrombie and Fitch situation, they are completely rude to anyone bigger than a medium in my opinion.
@Sarah, I have to slightly disagree with you on the whole skinny shaming thing. Girls who are plus sized have to grow up thinking that since no one carries their size, or that since they have to go to a special section of the store, that something is wrong with them. The ideal size in our society is no larger than a small, or maybe medium. People who are plus sized are put in a display case that the world looks in on and judges them for being big. But on the other hand some people just can't help being thin. I don't think that it's so much a double standard as much as it's just people supporting someone who doesn't often get it. The one store that doesn't carry size 000 pants or XXsmall compared to the thousands of stores that don't carry size 14 jeans or a XL top doesn't mean double standard, it just means that for once someone who is smaller just doesn't have as much options, but for anyone bigger than large thats just an everyday thing.

None, but UO is always coming out with the most inconsiderate pieces. IE: multiple shirts reminiscent of holocaust victims and the attire they were forced to wear, a few shirts inappropriately encouraging misogyny, glamorizing mental illnesses / body disorders, a blood stained Kent State sweatshirt which is horrible bc there actually was a massacre at Kent State. Just stuff that shouldn't be taken lightheartedly, I'm all for satire but only from a damn comedian like you'd expect and even then stuff like that just isn't funny to joke about. I never understand how that stuff is just not overlooked by the workers or owner, whatever, ugh.

Also, amen Sarah, being a thin girl myself. People act like skinny shaming isn't a thing bc it's praised in the media but it's very real and just as hurtful

I actually really agree with you Sarah. You do hear so much about thin people sending girls the wrong body image but some people are just built that way. I also know lots of women who have very athletic figures and now feel they do not look good enough because they are not curvy. Women are now encouraged to embrace there curves. I think women should just be encouraged to have a healthy body and love it.

Oh wow I never knew about that stuff with urban outfitters. that's absolutely insane. who in their right mind would ever think that's okay?? so inconsiderate. I feel really mad about that now tbh. won't ever shop there!

back to your question, no I don't boycott anything (except UO now lol). if I like something I get it. I'm not one to research companies or really be in the loop on that kind of stuff so it's never been an issue for me.

Amen to that Nicola!

Yeah! It's horrible. They're always getting bad press. They probably do it for publicity but how thirsty can you get? Especially the Kent State one and Holocaust stuff, you've got to be kidding me.

I'm with Kat and Alex, though, I don't really dig deep on stuff like that because honestly it can't be fully avoided anyways. Where do you think the ingredients in EVERY product was tested on? Animals. Nothing is ever 100% true, especially in the selling industry. I just by what I like, I couldn't live my life walking on eggshells over stuff like that
