Hi All,

Great to see the new pro forum! Thought it would be cool to have a safe pace for us pros to share challenging situations - be it how we handled difficult personalities, skin/hair issues, tight time frames, etc. - so we can can learn, get advice from other pros and just generally commiserate!

I'll share one I just recently went through to get things started...

Working with a new photographer and model. 30 minute window to do a full "glamour" makeup look. The model, who knew she was getting her makeup done, showed up with a full face of makeup which included about a dozen black stars drawn all over her (very light) skin with gel liner! Took 15 minutes to get her makeup off because the black gel liner stained her skin. Badly!!! Major concealer required. Clock was ticking... Went about 5 minutes overtime (a miracle).

When I questioned the model why she did this to her face before a shoot, she said it was because she "went shopping" and that this was her "going to the mall makeup." *Face to palm*

Most models know to show up bare faced or at least without semi-permanent black stars painted all over their faces before a shoot.

I conjured up my inner Tim Gunn and he told me "make it work, people", but I'm a perfectionist and results were not 100%. Did the best I could ;)

Well I am by no means a professional; however, my friends do book appointments for me to do their makeup, when dances and proms come around. Anyway one day this past May, I was busy do makeup for prom attendees, when all of a sudden one of my best friends calls me crying as hard as possible. She asks if I have any time for her to come and me fix her face, I had a 30 minute lunch break coming up but was still with another client finishing up. I told her to hurry and get here and I would see what I could do. When she got there I was flabbergasted by the awful job another MUA had done. She told me that the girl used "ONLY HER FINGERS!!", and let me tell you she packed it on heavy. I like you. had to do some serious work getting all of it off, we are talking five layers of mascara... Once I goti t off I had like 15 minutes until my next appointment, so I had to hurry like nobody's business. I feel like I did a decent job considering the obstacles I faced. Here is a picture of the finished result actually.

Haha, another quick story... That same day one of my friends came in to get her makeup done, and her skin had been so damaged by all the time she spends in the tanning bed, it was almost impossible to make her skin look smooth. I used a lot of moisturizer and one heck of luminizer. It turned out quite nice though. Here is a picture of that final result.

Wow! how did you do such a good job in 15 minutes?? please what is your secret?? :)

I just don't let anything distract me when I'm rushed for time. I like literally zone out, and there is nothing there but me and the face I am working on. When I'm not rushed it takes 30-45 minutes depending on what is being done.

My daughter is a MUA and last month she had to deal with a drunk bride. As the woman sat in the chair the maid-of-honor was holding a puke bucket because the bride was puking her brains out as my daughter TRIED to work on her face along with the hair stylist. My daughter felt so bad for her that she ended up staying for the entire wedding touching up her makeup because of the bathroom runs. Luckily the both bride and groom were very gracious and tipped her more than her rate.

Oh my goodness, a drunk bride? That would be terrible. Poor bride & MUA. Nice of your daughter to stay and help her out, Shelly. Hopefully she'll get lots of good referrals too, from that act of kindness.

I hope the bride didn't get wasted because she was having second thoughts, lol!
