My friend wants to dye her hair dark blue but her hair is black, she tried without bleaching, it made no difference. She doesn't want to bleach her hair light, she just wants a texture the dye Can hold on to. What can she use? Also hair stylists doesn't seem to understand what we want. :(

I use chromasilk dye and it shows up on my dark hair. maybe she should try that out? it only shows up in sunlight for me though but the colors are very vibrant. my hair was fire engine red last summer :)

We don't have that product here :(

She has to bleach if she wants the color to show up
It's not about the texture of the hair, it's about the lightness
Like, bike dye won't show up at all on black hair, would be faint on brown hair, and vibrant on blonde hair
So if she wants blue hair she has to bleach

It doesn't have to be vibrant actually, she wants it dark blue.

It has to be lighten. Especially since she has dye on top of it now.

Even if it's dark, I assumd she wants it noticeable rather than just a tint in the sunlight. This is blue over white blonde hair, so it will not show up at all on black hair.
Bleach, when done correctly, does not damage the hair too much. If done correctly and patiently, and by someone who knows what they're doing, it will have little damage, like dying hair. I have had my hair bleached at least 15 times in the last two years, and my hair is healthier than most people's unbleached hair. And I have very dark (not quite black but almost) hair.

I don't think it's possible to dye your hair that shade of blue without bleaching it.
