So I currently have purple hair (pic in this post) and got it done at a salon using pravana at the end of August. because I swim almost every day, its faded really fast (pic #2). I don't really want to go spend a ton of money to get it redone before swim season ends, so I am considering dying it red at home (pic #3) before I go back to get it redone purple. under the purple its bleached fairly blonde, but I'm naturally dark brown. last time I went in, she said that when I come back my stylist said shr can just go over the faded purple with more purple and I won't have to bleach it any further. So, my questions:
-If I go with the red, let it fade, then go redo the red, will she need to rebleach it, or can she go right in with purple?
-Will this shade of red even look good on me??
-Do I need to strip the purple out of my hair before I go in with the red?
-What dye should I use to do the red?

Don't kill your hair! I'd deal with it as is until the seasons over and you can dye it and keep the color.

Unfortunately, the season really won't be over for a while (about a month) and I really don't like the magenta that the purple fades into, so I really have to redo it with something at home. I'm trying to decide if I should go red for a little while, or just redo the purple as best I can, however I've never had much luck with purple at home. also, I'm really not that concerned about the health of my hair. I use a lot of leave in conditioners and good hair care products, etc, so more the worry is getting the colors to turn out okay. thank you though!

What brand of dye have you used for the purple?

My stylist used pravana purple and blue I think.

Box hair dyes are permanent if you use it you have to remove the color in order to dye it purple again, I used purple from sally's (ion brights) mixed with white conditioner to keep my purple hair. the dye is about $5 and I used suave naturals coconut conditioner $1. If I were you I would not dye it red color removals and/or bleach will damage your hair if you want to go back to purple.

Red is the most difficult color to get out of your hair. And because you have purple it will probably turn very cool toned red, which you need to keep in mind, personally, I don't think you'll do it. Your hair dresser will be rolling her eyes at you. Especially with the chlorine build up in your hair, you can have unexpected results. I don't think your faded hair looks bad, at all. It actually looks like that's what you were going for, in my opinion. And a month isn't really that long of a time :)

Don't put the red over, I know it sucks having to wait to dye it especially when you feel like it looks bad, I don't think it does though I kinda like the faded purple. Instead of dying it red and having to bleach it out to go purple again, why don't you buy a semi permanent purple dye like manic panic or directions? :) that way you could refresh your purple until you can go to the hairdresser. Red will have to be stripped to go back to purple

Agreed with shaye. A manic panic jar is like 12$ and will give you the ability to redye your purple whenever you need it

Personally I wouldn't go red. I've found that red fades the fastest out of any other colour hair dye so I'm not really sure why you would go red if you swim almost everyday. Sorry I hope that didn't sound rude! Maybe try getting a semi permanent veggie dye so that you can still add some nice colour to your hair but when swim season is over you can dye it purple again without damaging your hair from dying it red.

Definitely go with semi permeant. Special fx, manic panic, punky colors, ion, just to name a few.
