So fake Instagram influencers are a significant problem. For a while, Chloe has been seeing these people quickly rise up through the ranks, and be supported by big brands. There's quite a few reasons why this is a problem, and she goes in-depth in her video all about it, so please check it out!

Another great video you should check out, and I forgot to mention, is by Xiaxue. She completely exposes loads of local influencers, names and shames them! She uses Socialblade to see if their growth is organic.

Faking your Instagram numbers is harmful to everyone. I understand that a lot of people feel pressured to appear popular, and that competition is fierce. However, using bots to inflate your numbers or comment on your behalf, is illegal.

Chloe also mentioned a couple things in her video that I don't fully agree with. First, comment pods. If used correctly, these can be very helpful and do allow for genuine, organic reach. IF DONE CORRECTLY. I'm assuming a lot of people use them to game the system and don't care about their actions - don't be one of those people. Comment pod responsibly. Second, using VA's (virtual assistants) is a common way to save time on menial tasks, and they can be incredibly helpful. But, again, they must be used correctly. Hiring someone to follow a bunch of random accounts and give them all emojis as replies is NOT best practice, and should be avoided.

Use common sense. Don't be a dill.

More people need to talk openly about these issues, and more people need to stand up and be accountable for it, brands included. It's just as easy to check the background of an influencer as it is for the influencer to buy likes, followers and comments. Five minutes of research will save your business thousands of dollars.
