Every makeup artist has their way of collecting fees for their makeup jobs. I was browsing through the Internet and the makeup artist only accepts cash or money orders no personal checks. How do you recommend to collect fees for the job and what is recommended?
I got a free Square Card Reader this year at IMATS. It is the easiest convenient way or cash. However with the square reader I would recommend running the card before the service as I've encountered a declined card after the service and it was difficult to collect. Go to square.com and they will send you one for free :)
The square is awesome! Highly suggest it, its so easy to get and makes you seem more invested into the business. I do mainly bridal makeup and I do a "coffee consult" with the bride prior to any service being done. This allows me to meet with the bride, give her a run down on how my services will work and have her sign my contract. If they pay me during the consult I give them a little discount and I will accept cash, card or check at the consult, But if services will be paid on the day of, they receive no discount and must pay cash or card on my square. no checks.
Can someone give me a run down of how the square card reader works? I'm really interested but I would like to know any details, such as if there are any monthly fees, how the process works, etc, before I request my own square. Thanks!
Square is awesome! They take 2.5% in fees when you use it so charge your client a service fee for taking their card payment. It's fast & easy & I highly recommend it! It allows me freedom to accept any form of payment now!

Cash and CC via square. I love square.
But also I am to be paid before services start so they already know that up front. For trials I only accept cash. I don't do checks anymore.
