Hey all, maybe this is a bit weird, but I'm pretty organized and I like to plan things out ahead of time. So, I'm studying abroad this summer, in London for 3 weeks, and I have absolutely no idea what to pack. I'm a notorious over packer, and I have no clue what makeup, let alone how much makeup, to pack. Not to even mention clothing! I have no idea how much is acceptable or too much or what I might need, so I'd love any and all suggestions please!!

For 3 weeks, I would pack like all my makeup... I would pack your essentials, and anything you would wear to like dress up. Pack makeup you know you wear, nothing you don't need. For clothes I plan my outfits for each day out, so that might help in packing clothing.

I know, and I've been to London before, so I know to pack a range of things, I just don't know exactly how much to pack, I think is my problem. Of course I'm going to pack all of my skincare stuff, but I have a hard time determining what I "need" haha.

Makeup: bring your main palettes that you know you'll use, liner, mascara

Clothes: a couple pairs of pants, at least 5-7 pairs of shorts, a couple paints of skirts and dresses (just in case you decide to dress up), 2 or so pairs of heels, 2 pairs of sneakers, and about 3-4 sandals. Bring plenty of shirts that can be mix and matched with bottoms. (Try to stay away from specific outfits) your pieces should be interchangeable I.e. 1 bottom should be able to go with 3 or more tops and vice versa

Thanks Nala, number specifics are ultra helpful. I'm just running around waiting for school to end so I can go on this trip!

Having the same problem 😭 I'm going to peru for 5 weeks and they said I should only bring 1 suitcase, then my carry on. I was like oh my gosh. I'm going to take primer, powder, foundation, eyeliner and mascara I've decided. My skin care products and a couple hair products. As for clothes I'm still unsure.

See that's my struggle! I'm like...okay I need all of the skincare things, straightener, shampoo and conditioner, hair mask, stuff I use constantly, and THEN I have to go through all my makeup, pick what I'll use and what would be fun (since I'm going to be 20 and allowed to go out on weekends) to have, like glitter...then CLOTHING, because goodness knows I don't know what I'll want to wear, or if I need clubbing outfits, or if we're going to go nice places for dinner...that's why I'm trying to start thinking about it now haha.

Thanks so much Alexis, that's really helpful! I do travel a lot, just not usually for such long periods of time.

Plus, the last month long trip I went on, they gave me a packing list but I don't have one now haha.

Definitely try to stick to only what you need. I always over pack even if I go on a vacation for 7 days. The goal is to pack things that can be used in multiple outfits. Have some neutrals, white, beige, brown, black for pants and jackets and then try a variety of different coloured tops. If you're going for 3 weeks maybe try packing as if you're going for 2 weeks. I never wear everything I bring and I normally wear a few things multiple times. Definitely bring 2 pairs of good sneakers/running shoes. 3-4 pairs of sandals, maybe 1 or 2 pairs of heels. A warm jacket, 2-3 pairs of pants, 3-4 pairs of shorts. As for makeup bring your essential face products, cleanser, toner, moisturizer. 1 primer, 1 foundation, 1 powder, 1 concealer. As for palettes try bringing 2 or 3 that have a lot of different variety of colours.

Thanks Shauna, in terms of makeup I actually have a bit of an advantage in that I don't wear foundation or powder :) I also don't exercise, so running shoes are unnecessary for me as well, but thank you so so much, I really appreciate the help :)

I know there's so much stuff to take clothing for! I don't see how it's possible to put it all in once case

I would wait and get all the basic things you need when you get there (ie: shampoo, razors, face wash) I'd pack like I'm going to 3 weeks because all the clothes I'd wear I'd wear in 3 weeks. Don't forget a rain jacket. For makeup make sure you have your essentials plus a few extra in case you wants a bright eye, Zpalettes would be ideal so you can take what you want. Obviously chargers and everything. Roll your clothes tightly instead of laying flat it helps with space. Hope I helped :)

Thank you, Alexis that's a brilliant idea! and Allison, the real problem is that my ideal makeup is obscenely bright, if it were up to me I'd abolish neutrals forever. that makes it harder to pack haha and I'll definitely look into buying shampoo and razors and stuff while I'm there, that's a great idea thank you!

Oh the struggle! For the clothes part I can't even give you advice because I'm horrible myself but makeup wise I'd bring your skincare routine and since your at an advantage of not filling in your brows or face makeup youll have a little extra room for more palettes and like 4 or 5 lipsticks.

Good point, and I'll have to pick a good range of lipsticks and eyeshadows...Maybe my Monarch and Electric palettes?? argh, the struggle.

If you are able to have access to wash your clothes then it would be so easy to pack for! This last summer I went to Europe (Germany, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland) for 10 days and that was so hard for me lol I am notorious for overpacking but I somehow made it work. I took tons of shirts and less pants/skirts because I could easily re-wear jeans. I basically picked a color palette that way I could mix and match. One of the best things that helped me was by searching on Pinterest for extended packing trips. As far as makeup/skincare goes, I bought one of those makeup organizers that hangs on the back of the door and that helped because I could roll it up or lay flat ontop of my suitcase (inside obviously lol) so it didn't take up tons of room with thousands of cosmetic bags. As far as makeup goes, bring the basics and definitely your Electric and KVD Palettes that way you can also switch up looks with makeup. Good luck!

Also if you are able to buy shampoo and razors there I would but that was wayyyyy to difficult to do while I was in Europe because it was so hard to find (Even in the huge cities we were in) so honestly I would just buy some travel size because they really don't take up too much room. But since you've been before you may know the places to easily find stuff...
