Apologies Shelley if your name is spelled wrong. Ok so I'm having this little problem that is driving me crazy. So I have these dry patches that comes very so often. Apparently my skin becomes over oil if I put anything other than water on it. So the dry patches are noticeable when my make up is applied. They dry out and come off when I scratch it. The skin underneath is a little lighter but returns to its natural color after a day or so. My question would be what can I use that won't make my oil glands produce more oil or irritate my skin. Thank you. Also thank anyone who replies in advance.

Hun even though you have oily skin you need a complete skincare routine ,cleanse ,tone ,exfoliate once or twice a week and moisturize if your not moisturizing it will make your skin produce more oil and the dry skin can be taken care of with exfoliating and moisturizer.Just use gentle products a gentle milky cleanser and gentle moisturizer and alcohol free toner if your sensitive ,it just sounds like your skin is over dry and dehydrated just make sure you don't have eczema,or any other skin condition, and that it's just dry skin

Ouch!! Its kinda hard to say what it could possibe be. Without knowing what it could be its hard to say what products to use. Has this situation new for you or ongoing for several months? And are these patches raised and itchy? It could be anything...skin fungus or psorasis ( I just completely misspelled it). Lets see what Traci says. She is in the skin business so she see's various skin conditions.

I have psoriasis and they look like dry patches of skin with silvery skin like flakes that flake off if you touch them and when you remove the flakes it leaves a red color behind (as if the skin is raw) so if yours seems like that it could be psoriasis but it's a genetic disorder that runs in the family so check your medical/family history first - otherwise it could even be eczema as well but only a dermatologist can diagnose whatever it might be - what has worked for getting rid of mine are intense moisturizing oils like jojoba n maracuja - but like traci said I still have a full skin care routine with gentle products that don't over irritate my skin (mainly over drying alcohols are bad) and exfoliation definitely helps with the scales too.

I'd start with a gentle cleanser. I'd suggest cereve hydrating cleanser. Gentle toner and moisturizing cream in pm. spf daily in am exfoliate 2xs a week. After you heal I'd use a gentle skin cleansing brush 3xs a week. I use mine daily but that's a different story. It sounds as if your skin needs to be balanced. Are you or could you be diabetic?

Traci, I was thinking eczema as a possibility too.
Mizz Mea, are the dry patches raised and sort of have very small bumps to them? Do they itch?

Thanks ladies. Um no they don't itch or have bumps but I have been told I do have eczema. No I'm not a diabetic. It happens not on a timed schedule but it seems to happen during the seasonal change when summer is approaching. I don't know what can I use. my doctor told me to use cetaphil so I use the soap and facial moisturizer but the thing with the moisturizer is it makes my skin look like I'm dead sorta with a funky color hue to it. I don't like that any other suggustions? as far as a daily skin care regiment/routine.

I would try CeraVe moisturizer. At least on the dry patches. It works well on dry skin and if it is eczema it will help with that too. The season change thing still makes me think of some sort of allergy triggered skin reaction, you know? Or do you start taking an allergy medication at that time that could be drying you out?
And woah, creepy about the Cetaphil moisturizer.

I recommend cerave hydrating cleanser and moisturizer also or if you don't like the hydrating one the foaming one eczema flares up during warmer months sweating aggravates it ,you can also use aveeno eczema cream at night on the dry patches, and a oatmeal mask once a week helps calm eczema down ,just old fashioned oats and distilled water into a creamy paste

Go to a doctor and check it...I don't know if you have available the brands bioderma or frezyderm in your country...they have specific targeted lines which are amazing...if you do have them let me know so I can tell you what to get...while I was on flare they have helped me more than the prescribed medical creams...
