You need to have good lighting for filming. I suggest I front of a window or in a room with loads of light. An iPhone of iPod films great quality videos for when you are first starting out so no need to buy expensive filming things. Think of a good name that will stick with people. Also you want to have like Instagram and twitter to interact outside of youtube with your fans (optional). Do an introduction video explaining what you are planning on doing and who you are ,how many times you will upload etc.etc. Also create a logo/channel art to make your channel appealing to others.

Know what you're doing! Be able to take criticism. Make a funny video every now and then so viewers will feel like they know you more eg Doing zombie makeup.
Try to consider what the viewers would want to see like a everyday school look. Recommend brands that work but are affordable.

I have a blog and here are some of my tips (keep in mind I am new to this as well)
Have a nice and clean background. I have white furniture so it works!
Use natural lighting!
Have a nice camera!
I have the Canon eos rebel t3i!
Be consistent!
Create content you love and believe in!
It should not feel like a job. Do it because you want to. Even if you have no followers, just think of it as a diary.
