So I've got average almond shaped eyes that shrink up when I smile but I don't know the best way to apply eyeshadow.

With your skintone, I would go for bright colour. Try to use a shimmer highlighter eyeshadow as base and then use your favourite bright colour to blend in together :D.

Look at Wayne goss video on this topic it's great - it looks you may have a hooded eye as well so you need blend all colors well above your natural crease and best to apply eyeshadow with your eyes open to make sure it will be visible.
