I think you could pull of any colour. If you are just starting out with lipstick though...I would suggest using a lighter lipstick.

I think you should start with light pink or coral colors.. then if you feel comfortable start adding more intense colors. I would suggest mac please me its a gorgeous color suits most skin tone and colors.

Any and all! I like Macs lustre finish for lipstick newbies. or if you want tto go cheap, then try maybelline lipsticks, they tend tto be more sheer. Coral crush is beautiful. also Fushia Flash and hot plum.
