Is it time to move on from my basic hairdyer?

I have an extremely basic hairdryer. It has 3 settings and a cool button. It gets the job done lol
I'm wondering about buying those fancy ceramic ones. I saw one today that said it colour protects and shoots out protein or something. Are these fancier hairdryers a gimick and I should stick to my trusty basic one or do they make a big difference and I should branch out and buy a fancier one?

If you said yes branch out is there any in particular you like and could you explain the differences because I am so basic and have no knowledge in hair haha
Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I don't think it's necessary. I have a T3 hairdryer only because it was on sale and it's travel sized. It's small, but it dries my super thick hair like a champ. The only thing I know about hair dressers is that if you get an ionic one, the positive ions will seal your hair and make it shiny, and the negative ions will blow out your cuticle and make your hair super frizzy (which is good for adding color or making sure that treatments penetrate your hair if you blow dry it beforehand...)

Hair dryers* not dressers.

I have a pretty basic hairdryer too, just like the one you've described and I manage just fine :-)
Tbh, unless you're a hairdresser or pride yourself on having salon quality hair at all times, I don't see any reason why you should spend a gazillion dollars on something you already have (sort of...)

I'm a hairdresser and I have a basic one at home and a $350 one for work and honestly I do like my fancy hot tools better, but for at home use the cheapies are fine!

Kimberley, I'm honestly curious...what's the difference??

I find that my GHD Aura is a lot quieter, dries hair faster and overall give me more control. I also love the concentrator as I find it's super precise and doesn't disturb the hair that I'm not working on which helps keep the rest of the hair polished and frizz free.

Ah, okay that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation :)

My cousin is a hairdresser and she uses a 500$ one at work mostly for show and since they can be quieter, and a 20$ one at home lol.

I asked her about it when I wanted to buy a new one and she says there's not a whole lot of difference between high end and drugstore, even the ionic ones or whatever, she doesn't notice a difference other than better control on each piece without blowing hair that's put to the side like Kimberley said and it's quieter. And of course they're better looking most of the time. But she recommended a 35$ one for me and it's done just fine and no difference between my old one that was 65$.

Amen Alyx, the hairdryer I use is also sold at my salon so it's also a way to talk it up and possibly sell one to clients.
