If a reputable tech (one who follows proper procedure and has taken the appropriate classes to install them) does it and the wearer understands and follows thru with proper care then they are perfectly fine. I've seen some beauties who went to some not so great installers that resulted in some nasty outcomes which I spare you the details. I would definitely seek out those who exclusively do lash extensions and nothing but extensions and make sure they are truly using glue just for extensions and not wig glue and that a sanitation program is strictly followed.

There is a difference between lash extentions and individual lashes , the lash extentions grow out then fall off and it's better for your lashes it's a single hair applied to each lash but you won't get that thick over the top look that you get with a strip it's more if you want a natural look , individuals look nice they can be made to look thick like a strip but they pull your lashes out no matter how carefully you try to remove them so I really don't recommend those.

I have a certificate in doing eyelash extensions and they're not bad for you at all. Just like Traci said, it's one synthetic lash applied to one of your own individual eye lash. They do fall off when your natural lash sheds. I would recommend looking at people near you who have no complaints or very few because one little mistake can go wrong. When I took the course, the instructor explain how people have gotten their eyes glued shut and what not, really bad. But other than a bad tech, they're not bad at all (:
