Okay, so this maybe long so I'll bullet everything and that way maybe someone can see the issue.
• use to wear Nars sheer glow (loved it)
• also I wore a Mac concealer and (liked it) took some time to find an okay match.
• had to find an everyday foundation so I bought neutrogena healthy skin foundation. (Liked it)
•now after a few months of using it I'm just not loving it like I use to. I'm caked and it doesn't give any coverage. It basically just darkens my skin. And I stick to Mac concealer even though it is way to matte for me I think.

So the question is. What am I doing wrong why am I so caked and not getting any coverage? I have dry acne prone skin.

You could try using a primer to even everything out? Not to mention make you could switch up to a more heavy duty moisturizer for your face so that your face doesn't "cake" up. You could also try using a finishing spray over top your makeup, and use a lighter hand during application. Those are my best ideas as to how to fix the problem.

Thanks! I do use primer and spray. However I have yet to find a primer that really works for me :\ but thanks for the advice!

Make sure that you apply a FULL or Medium coverage foundation and always start with a small amount of foundation and build up. Test out some foundations and see if they are your desired coverage. Make sure that you have the right foundation color. I would suggest if you want a high end foundation, going to sephora and getting your color iq determined. This will really help. If you are looking for a drugstore foundation, I would suggest making sure it matches your arms and neck. Also, sponges such as the beautyblender really help to get a non cakey and flawless face. If you have dry acne prone skin (like me) I would suggest using the cetaphil oil control moisturizer!

Hope this helps,

Do you have any good techniques for beauty blenders. I have one and I just use it to ease up the dry patches of foundation.

Get them wet and squeeze them until it is big. Then, take a towl and gently squeeze out the access water. Apply your moisturizer before foundation and then, start by applying a pea size amount of foundation to your beauty blender (you can use a bit more later if needed) then, stipple, or dap, onto your face starting on your t zone and working outward. Then, apply the concealer to your undereyes and use the point of the beautyblender to blend. Set your foundation with either a brush or a beautyblender with a powder since you said you have oily skin.

If you of have dry skin, I would firstly recommend you put in a routine to try and rectify it, a cream like avene's cold cream is something I use when my face is feeling like it needs a good dose of moisture.
I would say try looking for a foundation the is buildable, I like shiseido in the stick, light coverage buildable to medium.
Technique wise, I'm a stippler user, You've tried the blender and didn't like the finish it gave, that could also be coz I don't use liquid foundation.
When you say concealer, could you be more specific as to the issue you're having, is it caking up on the blemish or are you concealing undereye? X

I never believed the hype around cetaphil but I started using it about 2 weeks ago and my skin has changed drastically. I used to have skin so dry that it would crack under ANY foundation. And acne...let's not even go there...I missed many social events due to being embarrassed of my skin.

Anyways the point of this blurb is to recommend cetaphil. Please give it a try and see how you like it. I never thought that something from the drugstore would help me and my skin. No foundation out there is going to look great on "not great" skin. That's my opinion and I've battled bad skin for the past 7-8 years until now.

I agree with Tara...cetaphil is phenomenal...I had really bad skin combination with cystic acne.a lady at my beauty school recommend I try it and I havent looked back since. I combine this with a good toner and avennp daily moisturizer.

When buying a foundation make sure it is made for dry skin and for more coverage try the Revlon color stay. When You want more coverage instead of adding a whole layer to your entire face just add a little more foundation to that spot. MAKE SURE UR BEAUTY BLENDER IS DAMP!!
