I have started dying my hair a bright red color and it involves using some bleach at the root. When ever I use the bleach it gives me horrible dandruff and itchy painful scalp even after I wash my hair a few times over the fast few weeks... Is there anything that can be used to help with the dandruff and not have to loose the vibrancy of my red hair?!? I have tried using head and shoulders but it only makes my color bleed like crazy... Thanks!!

Use hydrating masks on your roots, this could help moisturize the scalp and get rid of dandruff. However I don't know how this will affect after color.

I don't think it's dandruff, it'd be your scalp being irritated by the bleach. How often and what volume peroxide are you using?

I use volume 30, and I am actually using the loreal hi color hi lights which contains bleach and color... So far it's been maybe once a month... And it only gets this way right after I dye it, then I have to wash it multiple times for the itchy ness and dry skin to go away...

Yeah it sounds like your scalp is reacting to the peroxide in the dye, probably because it's 30 vol, how long do you leave it on?

Maybe 20-30 mins... Is there anything that I can do to prevent it? Maybe a lower developer or some time of conditioner?

Using a conditioner that's moisturising can help how it'll feel afterwards but there's nothing you can really do to prevent it if it is the peroxide doing it other then maybe trying a 20vol instead of 30? It'll be less harsh on your scalp :)

Yay thank you!! Very useful information, it just looks like dandruff so that's my automatic thought... Thank you!!

You're welcome :) I always had that happen when I used 30vol when I bleached my hair but using 20 made it stop :) as for your scalp it should go away by itself in a week or so
