I line my upper lash line first then create a small line on my lower lash line and connect the two to form a wing. A q tip is your best friend in fixing any mistakes!

To add on to Melissa's great suggestion, you can also use tape to help give yourself a guide. That way, you can just remove the tape and whatever you don't want will go with it. You can also use a business/credit card to get a straight edge, but I prefer the tape so I can keep both hands free. Just keep practicing and you'll get it!
