What does shaving cream actually do? Does it help to get a closer shave?

I think it just helps you see where you shaved and helps moisturize your skin lol.

When you shave the hairs get caught in the razor and get tugged or even ripped out as you shave. Shaving cream lubricants the skin allowing the hairs to be cut and not stick to the blade.
