Hey girls! Well, my dermatologist gave me some pills and creams for my acne. My face is EXTREMELY dry, causing my foundation (mainly around my mouth and beside the nose) to flake. Anyway to help the flaking stop?

Get a reeeeeaalllly thick moisturizer for those areas. That's what I do, I have oily skin by I get dry in certain areas and usually use aquaphor overnight in those areas. Jojoba oil can probably really help!

As for thick moisturizers either cerave or cetaphil(I'm not sure which is for dry skin) in the jar.

I agree with Renay! I have dry skin and my nose area gets flakey too,I use a really thick moisturizer at night and the flakes or dryness is gone by morning (doctor recommended it). Also exfoliate atleast one a week!

@Jacqlyn-Can I use jojoba oil? I thought it was for oily skin :o

If it is a newer problem it is most likely dehydration. dry skin is a skin type it is what you are born with it can be maintained but not treated. dehydration usually results in flakiness and is a skin condition caused by environmental and external factors. drink a lot of water stay hydrated exfoliate dermalogicas skin prep scrub mixed in with essential cleansing gel will really help followed by multi active toner which will hydrate your skin. Their products do not change the pH level of your skin so they don't have toners to bring back your natural ph like you normally would use with other products that strip your skin. and the intensive moisturizer is amazing I suffered from dehydration and that really helped with the dehydrated flaky areas.

I agree with what everyone else has said. Just be careful with exfoliating because that is only going to make it worse if you are doing it so often. Also, CeraVe works better for dry skin, I use the Moisturizing Cream (pm) and Moisturizing Lotion (am). I also love the hydrating cleanser, I use that along with an acne fighting cleanser.

As far as primers, I love L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer, I have tried so many primers (drugstore and high end) and surprisingly, this one is my favorite. It gives a luminous glow, so if you don't like dewy makeup then you won't like it. I haven't tried it, but Too Faced new Hangover Primer is supposed to be great for dry skin. As for foundations, Clinique Even Better, Clinique Super Moisture, Makeup Forever HD, and Nars Sheer Glow (this on broke me out though, so whatever you try, get samples first!) are great for dry skin.

I don't agree with Sarah. Not only can skin change but like you said you are on an acne treatment and I know from experience that it drys you out. Like everyone has said exfoliate and a heavy moisturizer. Also I don't know if your a high end or a drugstore girl but I have recently discover the Maybilline fit me liquid foundation and I don't understand why I haven't found it sooner. I no longer see flakes on my face, its medium to full coverage and if you want you can even sheer it out to a light coverage.(you do this by adding a 1:1 ratio if foundation to moisturizer ) its a dewy finish but if you set it with a matte powder it becomes matte. It doesn't look cakey, doesn't feel heavy, and just looks nice on the skin. It perfect.

I'm going by what I have learned in Esthetics and I recently went to a Dermalogica conference and we discussed the different quite thoroughly including effects of medications, improper products and environmental factors. A skin type is hereditary you are born with it and it is determined by the amount of sebum produced. you can maintain the dryness or oiliness where as a skin condition is caused by environment or products or medications like acne treatments usually cause dehydration. I'm not saying skin can't change but I was just mentioning it is possible it is dehydration not dryness if she wasn't experiencing this before. If it is caused by a treatment then it is not her skin type
