Okaayyy...So I'm reading up on makeup schools reviews and things of the such. As I'm reading there seems to be this debate on people who go to makeup school and people who are self taught. Some people are being very rude kind of bashing people who going to makeup school saying don't waste your money it's a big waste of your time saying that they won't hire people who went to MUD and one other makeup school in there special fx shops because they don't learn anything that they pick up bad habits at makeup school. I'm curious if it is really is worth going to makeup school or should I just save my money and just teach myself?

Yeah I have been wanting to go to school for makeup artistry. So I read reviews a lot. When they said this I got so confused.I just wanted to be sure I was making the right decision. Thank you miss Jackie.

Haha seriously?? who says you get bad habits from going to school. I feel like so many people now are proclaiming themselves self taught makeup artists, its ridiculous. I went to school for esthetics, which is mostly skincare based but we did learn a lot about makeup/application/ and health precautions. I honestly learned so much!! I'm not a makeup pro but I think my skills are decent

I accidentally posted before I was done, but basically I'm trying to say if someone knows how to do makeup, that doesn't mean they should go around calling themself a makeup artist, and going to school for it doesn't mean youre the best at it! but I say makeup school is the best route to go because its always best to be knowledgable! I'm sure these "self taught gurus" can name a mac brush but can't name any layers of the skin! lol

Laney, you got some great advice from the ladies.I'm a self taught MUA now not to be confused with a YouTube so called guru (ugh) lol I'm before social media and would not like to be compared to such.I've worked hard studying every aspect of makeup and delivered it with my all, from the 90's till this day and not all self taught MUA's are BS look at Billy B or Kevyn Aucoin and many others minus some that are debatable lol.It doesn't take over night or watching videos to give you a title.I say go for it go to makeup school since you have the options don't be confused about it just do it! And when your going to school you still got to get the styles down so you would still need the practice on your own as well.Best of luck and keep going. :-)

I went to Mud it's such a amazing school! They are very strict about being sanitized and everything so I don't know how that could be a bad habit lol I learned a lot from the school tho including the experience of being on set for photoshoots plus send you emails for people looking for makeup artists so it kinda helps when it comes to looking for a job. :)
