Hello,
I really want to work as a make up artist in a mac store or a Sephora. Do I need to go to school for this? I have experience with make-up but its all self taught. How should I start?
No you don't. At sephora they will train you, but you may need to start at the cashwrap and work your way up. Mac is a little bit harder. You will need to have two models to show Mac your artistry skills. They tend to be more picky. At sephora, be cheerful, outgoing, put the customer first, and look the part. Dress to impress.
If you get an interview at sephora- dress to impress! Meaning KNOW that they have a strict color scheme- black white and red. Put on your best black and white outfit and kick ass on your makeup and hair. I think it's important at interviews to look like you can work there right then and there. Sephora's dress code is so strict that at the corporate level the colors are mandatory.
I agree with Jen S. even when were just doing animations or overnight stuff we have to be in sephora concept colors. I can't stress enough dress to impress. Make sure your nails look good and clean. Have foundation on, eye shadow, mascara, and lipstick. Have your hair done well. Do so even when you go in to pick up and drop off an application. When you bring your application back ask to speak to a manager. Be professional. When you interview stress the fact that you always put clients first and go above and beyond do make them happy. Always smile. Sephora is like Disney. The managers are called directors and the rest of the staff is cast members. You smile and are perky and leave personal stuff at the door.
Any tips for a Sephora inside JCPenney? I'd prefer a freestanding store but the one in JCP is the easiest for me to get to. Is there anything I should do differently for this type of location?
Go for sephora first i got hired easy there but i ended picking forever21 better. I applied at mac and never called. I heard they are just alot stricter in knowin how to apply makeup perfectly
Sephora will train you. They continue to train you through out your career with them. Sephora inside jcp requires and application through jcp. You don't get the same experience that you do with a free standing sephora. They don't train you as much and you don't get to experience the newer technology that sephora is bringing in.
