So, I hauled the Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette a few days ago, and today I thought I'd do a review/first impression/look typed thread. So this was my first time using it, and I think I like it. I ended up using the shades Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve, Plum Away With Me, Don't Turn a Brown, and I also used the blush and I used the highlighter, Champagne, as an inner corner highlight since I don't do my face.

Anyway, what I like about this palette is that it has a good combination of matte and shimmer shadows, the shadows are all pretty pigmented, and all of them blended out/together like a dream. A few people asked me about Bare to Explore, because it was supposed to be chalky, but I didn't find it to be so. It's basically the color of my skin, so I had trouble making that work, but it was totally fine and smooth for blending out the other shades. I was expecting a disaster, and I didn't get one, so that's nice. The color I did have a bit of trouble with was the deep brown shade, which applied really lightly if I tapped the excess off the brush. Once I stopped tapping my brush off, it applied much darker (as expected). In spite of that, it's okay, but not the greatest matte brown shade.

What I don't like about this palette is that the 6 shadows fall into two color ranges that sort of don't go together. You have to be careful to pick a few colors that work well, because there are certainly color combinations that are possible that just won't look that good.

All in all, good palette. Super nice to have everything you need in one place. I'd probably travel with it, depending upon where I'm going/what I'm doing.

I also used:
Per-Fekt Lash Perfection Gel
Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Zero
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard
Urban Decay Primer Potion

So let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

It's so so pretty and I love the snake on it. I want it just for the pretty packaging but Tarte hasn't impressed me with shadows unfortunately. Thanks for doing a review, very helpful. Don't think I'll be picking this up, however.

Going anywhere exciting, Hannah?

No problem, it's not for everyone. Lili doesn't like Tarte shadows either. This is my first experience, I'm pretty happy with it :)

Oh, I'm going to Mexico to hang out with my brother and his family, actually. Should be fun :)

Thanks Renay, I just don't like not wearing makeup to airports. I really don't like neutrals that much, but I liked this palette (probably for the purple) so I thought I'd try it. Will do!

Yay. Thank you for this review. I like tarte eyeshadows, though some of their matte shades are a bit chalky. You have very pretty eyes btw. 😊

Thanks, Sonya. Yeah I'd say this is a good first experience, I wasn't sure what to expect since I actually don't have many Tarte things. Like maybe some mascaras, and a bunch of LipSurgences. Never tried any of their face/eye products so this is pretty awesome :)

@hannah I noticed from your haul post just recently you got the bliss moisturizer. This little guy. Have you gotten the chance to use it yet?!

No, I haven't. Have you?? I tend to try to use up whatever I have before I try something else.

I want thissssss but I already have SO MANY palettes. Would you recommend this to someone who already has tons of eyeshadow Hannah? Is there anything unique about it? I feel like the blush is pushing me over the edge to get this.
