Shellac/gelish nails are a line of nail polish done in salons that last for 14 to 21 days without chipping off or coming off. It is pretty awesome if you dont mind staying vth one of ur fav color (staying in perfectly) for days.
i'm actually really interested in getting shellac nails, even though i get bored mega easily and change my polish like every two days. but i think i'd get a french manicure.
I just got them 2 days back, and like I already wanted some difference ! but i am going on a holiday and i dont want the trouble of changing polish. It is beautiful and have a nice shine and is nice. Will give you an update after a week.
I've been getting OPI gel and shellac manicures on and off for almost a year now.
They do last 2 weeks, and sometimes even longer. After about a week the gap between my cuticle and the nail polish starts to bother me though. You would be surprised how much your nails grow in 2 weeks.
I work a lot with my hands, and when I get regular nail polish manicures, they chip within 2 days.. errr!! And I really dislike the look of a chipped up manicure. So the gel/shellack option seemed perfect for me.
When I first discovered the Gel manicures about a year ago, I went every 2 weeks. About 3 months into it, I noticed that my nails started getting really thin and weak underneath. So I stopped. It took about 1-2 months for them to be nice and strong again.
I still get them done, but mainly when I'm going away on a vacation, or for weddings, and things like that.
So I would recommend them, but be careful that you don't over due it.
I'm pretty sure its okay to put any glitter polish over the Shellac manicure without ruining it. My nail tech always has her nails Shellac'd, and frequently puts other nail polishes (not Shellac) over it, and just uses a non-acetone nail polish remover to take it off, and it doesn't ruin her Shellac manicure. Just do a test patch on a corner of your nail to see if it'll definitely ruin your manicure or not.
