Owning too much makeup!

I've gotten into makeup for exactly one year now, and I now own more makeup products than my mom has ever had in her lifetime (my mom won't walk out of the house without makeup, so you can tell that she loves it). Now she's telling me I have way too much. I've collected TONS of eye shadows and several palettes of eye shadows and blushes over the past year. And yes, I'm sure that I probably won't even have the chance to use all the products up in my lifetime, unless I apply makeup on every single day.

How many makeup products must one own to consider it too much?

Too much? Maybe if you have enough products to open your own store it'd be too much. lol

I have too much too! Half the stuff I haven't even opened! haha. Instead of wondering if its too much you should do a collection video haha. I was thinking about downsizing mine and donating the new stuff to a womens charity of some sort or maybe we can organize some kind of trading operation here on beautylish! That would be cool! Like we can post a picture of something we don't want and see if someone else would wanna trade something for it. lol. Dumb idea?

I agree with Mandy but if you guys think you have too much makeup or have a lot you haven't used, I suggest you hold a giveaway! It's definitely a win-win :)

Lol you're right. "Too much makeup"? What am I talking about? But the giveaway idea is pretty nice. I'd do it, but I've pretty much used all my products at least once, so nothing's good for giving away right now.

I was only worried about having too much makeup because I've been reading that although makeup doesn't have an expiration date labeled on it, they eventually go bad after a year or two, with mascara being the type of cosmetic that goes bad the soonest. There's no way I could possibly use up all my several tubes of mascara before it "goes bad".

Ah yeah, the trading idea, that's great too! This other website called MakeupAlley.com has a section of their website for people who want to "swap" makeup products. Definitely a win-win right there.

It scares me sometimes thinking about getting to a point where "I have too much makeup" I only have a train case full of makeup at this point.. but I've decided that I'm only going to buy things that .. I can't really compare to another product I have. I'm going to wait to buy a new concealer until I have used up my Kat Von D... and I'm going to hold off on liquid black eyeliners until I've finished my MAC gel liner + stila liner.

There is no such thing as too much. haha Some people collect antiques some people collect sports cards we collect makeup :)) Atleast that way I look at it and tell my husband when he complains about my make up taking over our room and bathroom! LOL

Looks like you've got a lot of self-control there, Shenandoah. :O But yeah, Marybeth, I should just think of collecting makeup just like people collect sports cards, coins, and stamps. ...But what if they go rotten?

Depends on who you're asking. lol I get told all the time I have way too much makeup. I don't consider myself a collector. I actually wear & use the majority of my products.

I apparently have too much too but I don't think I do as long as you use it and it isn't old and gross I thinks it's fine!

I would say do a giveaway, sell your products, or be a makeup artist to your family and friends. Stop buying cosmetics for now til you are done with them. Just don't forget to clean out your kit and throw away the rotten ones!

I got two makeup organizers and two shoe boxes full of cosmetics. It's so easy to accumulate, especially the cheap stuff. I really don't need this much. At the same time, I hate being wasteful so it can get hard for me to part with some even if I don't use them.
