Advice with hair dye.

Ladies please help. I dyed my hair a chocolate color and didn't it would have violet red tones. It's not terrible- very subtle. I still want to get rid of them. Which color should I do. At Sally's they told me to mix the same color with a neutral brown. I really need to do my roots this week.
