Hi everyone have a quick question for those who airbrush, do you guys set with a powder or is there no need to powder?

I always use a translucent powder so my makeup doesn't melt off as the day goes on!

Hi Vanessa :) ... I'd say it depends on the makeup ur using, some need to be set, and there are some brands that dry and set great on their own without powder. (I use dinair airbrus makeup and dont need to set:)

You shouldn't have to set Airbrush make up with a powder, I use Dinair and I never powder over it.

There are actually quite a few factors to consider regarding this. It's not a simple "yes" or "no". You need to take your makeup base (water, alcohol, silicone), skin type you're applying to, and climate you are using the product in all into consideration. If I have an oilier skin type and I'm applying a silicone-based airbrush makeup in a drier climate then yes, I will lightly apply a setting powder to help control shine. But if I'm using an alcohol-based airbrush makeup on a normal skin type in a more humid climate then no, I won't apply a powder because I don't want the client to look too dry or cakey. Take these factors into consideration and know your makeup bases, it will help with this decision.

Thanks for the input. I recently bought occ airbrush so I'll try both ways leaving it alone and setting it with a translucent powder. Anyone else have tried occ airbrush foundation?

Also, if you use an HD powder (which usually has silicone derivatives) over silicone based makeup sometimes it will ball up. Just depends on the product.

Hey Vanessa, I use MAC face and body through my airbrush machine, and I've tried setting it with both MAC loose powder and Makeup Forever HD translucent powder, in my opinion the loose powders make it some what cakey if you dont let the foundation dry properly, but with the translucent powder, it sets it beautifully without the cakey-ness :)

I use MAC Airbrush foundation and was told in a masterclass to set it with a clear translucent powder after it is thoroughly dry. MAC Airbrush is silicone based and after now working with it a few months I find it very versatile for different looks.
