I've worked at sephora and this is how it was explained: the indian remy hair hasn't been chemically altered where as malaysian hair is actually just chinese hair...but its been put through a process to give it more body so it actually isn't of as high quality since its been treated :)
Honestly it really depends... both are great but for diff reasons. Malaysian will help if you want to have a fuller look. The indian will be better if you want the natural shine of the hair to remain longer. Malaysian hair tends to decrease in shine over time and is slightly more coarse. However both are great for curling and straightening.

malaysian would be better if you want a low luster and thicker strands of hair, indian hair is high in luster (very shiny) and its also thinner
