I went through a course for 3 months. I got certified that was it because I was pursuing my bachelor's in medical field instead. I think you should just go through a course and then team up with photographers who do bridals start slowly and build a portfolio then do freelancing. Usually many people don't ask if you did makeup school. I have done bridals but they never asked me about schooling. portfolio yes they do ask.

I'm studying to be a makeup artist, its the best choice I've ever made. its fun and you look forward to going to school, I spend most of my time in the school spa or inte the school salong. but we also study history about how they wore makeup in the 1700s and stuff like that, we have normal subjects too but they're also about beauty, so I say go for it, I couldnt be more happy that I chose it :) (sry for my english, I'm swedish)
