Ok, I've been wanting to try co-washing for ages as I think it would really suit my hair type- thick and wavy- but I'd love some recommendations as to what conditioner to use...

So ladies, this is a challenging one as I only use products that are paraben and sulphate free. HELP!!!

Organix's conditioners are paraben and sulfate free, if a little pricey for co-washing. (If that's not an issue, I found that the awapuhi ginger works well.) L'Oreal's Ever lines are paraben and sulfate free, so maybe one of those conditioners might work. If you need something cheaper, Suave Naturals makes a conditioner with almond and shea butter that's less than $3 a bottle, and I think that one's sulfate and paraben free, too. Good luck!

You can also visit Sally's and see what they suggest. They are usually very helpful.

Co-washing is washing your hair with a conditioner.

Try Hair One, it's similar to Wen but way cheaper. It's sold at Sally's Beauty Supply

I've tried hair one and wen and hair one doesn't even compare you have to use way too much for it to attempt to compete with web it's not as moisturizing and the formula is much thinner than wen

That's great! However, I'm not sure on how you actually do it- do you leave it in for a while or rinse it straght away like you would with a shampoo?

I use suave as well. You have to use A LOT. (that's why it's best to go cheap). Scrub it in to your scalp and down your length and rinse. I comb mine through while in the shower as well, since I don't comb it later.

Parabens aren't the worst things in the world, I promise! I know that they're not always good for your hair, but they act as preservatives, helping to keep harmful bacteria from growing in your beauty products! Hope that helps.

@ Demi: Honestly, I'm not sure. I've done it both ways. Since my hair is curly and needs more moisture, I see no problem in leaving the conditioner in for a bit. I guess it depends on your hair and your personal preference? As long as you massage really well (the friction is what does the cleaning), you should be fine. I'd just experiment and see what works best for you.

also I didnt mintion this earlier. I just wanted to add what I do. I leave it in the length of the shower plus I actitvly scrum my head for like five minutes straight starting at my scalp scratching/rubbing working my way down to the ends its very tiring. ha ha

@Demi: The way I co-wash is that I cleanse my scalp with it (just like you would shampoo) and what ever is left on my hands, I apply it to the length of my hair. I wash my hair in sections because my hair is thick and rinse out the conditioner after all the sections are complete. I say try out both ways and see which moisturizes your hair the best. I also use Suave Naturals conditioner to co-wash with and you honestly don't need a lot. Co-washing is just meant to get the dirt off of your scalp until you shampoo your hair again; you may use a little bit more if you're covering the length of your hair in conditioner. I hope that helps!

AMAZING! I co-washed for the first time last night and I can't believe the difference! It's brought out my natural curl beautifully and it feels totally clean. I just used my regular conditioner which is paraben and sulphate free (of course!) and it seemed to work just fine. When I run out I will definitely try the Organix conditioner though as the scents sound really yummy! Thank you so much for all of your help ladies! x

Yayyyy! =D
