i was wondering how do u even start off by getting in working at a mac counter as a freelance ,,do u necessarily need sales background?cuz i dnt have that at all ive only worked at a restaurant as a cashier for a year,,but wat i really wana do is get a job as a freelance makeup artist at a mac counter and wat can i do??
I am a MAC freelance artist and you do not need to be certified/ or have a makeup degree. This is a common misconception. If you have one, it wouldn't hurt, but I do not recommend you spend tons of money on one for a counter job. They usually like you to have some kind of artistic background. I highly recommend you bring in a professional portfolio with about 10 photos of your most current work. They also like you to have some retail experience or customer service. Hope this helps!
Just go in and apply. I worked for them a really long time ago so things might have changed. I applied, had an interview and then had to do a makeup application day into evening using specific items. I know they require you to apply lashes now too. You will have to have some makeup experience, ie. previous jobs, schooling, other counter work, etc.
It can't hurt to apply. Worst case, you don't get the job but you can always ask what you can work on so you can reapply. Apply at all of the makeup counters to gain experience too.
When you go into apply, try to talk to a manager. Be very personable, make sure you are really well groomed with flawless makeup, because this is their first impression. My application was actually recreating an ad in a magazine (instead of day to night) and demonstrating my knowledge and sales skills while doing it, as if the model was a real customer.
like what the other ladies have said, you dont need any type of schooling to work at mac. i currently work for mac right now, and all you have to do really is know how to do makeup on others. go into your mac counter, look very trendy and presentable, ask for the manager, give them your resume, and then continue just call up on your resume. after that you will get your interview and a makeup interview. pretty simple.
thank u so much girls=]...im trying to work on my resume but i have no idea what to put???..and if i do ever get an interview i want to know what kind of questions they are going to ask me!!dats what im most nervous of!!..but the makeup application will be smooth to me..just not the questions..
they ask pretty standard interview questions. questions like why do you want to work for mac? why do you like mac? why should we choose you to work for us? questions like that. pretty simple, just be yourself is the most important thing.
