Personally I think college can be hindering unlesa you want to pursue theatre or catwalk, where you really need the skills.
I went to nail tech for a year and dropped out, I taught myself so much better and progressed quicker than if I had to follow certain modules. it was a waste of time and cash as I didnt wana do it full time, just as a side job.
I am an now training to be a social worker instead, random lol!

I went to Cosmo school and dropped out I have more fun teaching myself and as long as you keep practicing and read up and even just watch YouTube videos I don't see the problem in being self taught you get to experiment and have fun :)

I started out self taught, but after doing some music videos I thought I did quite a good job. I then sent some pics to a private beauty school with the question if they could give me feedback and if the course would be helpful since I already had lots of experience. Apparently the pics weren't that good and I went to do the 6 month course. I thought I knew soooo much when I started but ended up leaning tons of stuff and tricks. It made me practice my skill and creativity. I now use some things I leaned there and some things I taught myself. It's both good, you only need practice and passion!

I'm completely self taught. I've been doing makeup for almost 11 years, 5 of them actually applying on other faces. I've experimented and made mistakes but I've learned so much with that. I've read countless magazines, makeup books, watched plenty of YT videos and I still do. I have been an assistant to a makeup artist and I did makeup for events such as proms and weddings. From that, I've learned to be very organized, clean and be prepared for anything. Now, I'm in the point where I actually want to go to school for it just because I believe there is always something new to learn. It's a little difficult because I'm unsure of what is really required of me to attend a makeup school or what school to attend. But I guess I'll figure that out too.

I'm self taught also. I got very lucky and have an amazing friend who is a makeup genious! He helps me a lot but also... I am addicted to YouTube. I have learned mostly from there. And I apologize for not remembering what its called but there is a book thats written by Bobbi Brown. It has EVERYTHING in it! Bobbi's makeup is so amazing and a lot of Hollywood uses her and her makeup. I highly recommend buying it. It is so helpful and very inexpensive for how much it teaches you. And if you want the app for the book, you can purchase it on your phone for around $9
