I'm fairly new to makeup and I have very oily skin. I put on foundation and a powder every day but still, when I come home from school, my foundation is a mess and my face is disgusting. I've tried everything from lotions to primers to shine sticks and everything in between. I need some advice for how to deal with or cover oily skin and leave my foundation looking nice all day. Thank you!

Setting spray does wonders, I love L'orèal's Infallible spray. I've heard great things about barrier spray as well. Also go to the bathroom a couple times throughout the day to touch up your makeup. Try using blotting sheets which gets rid of the oily appearance, I like Palladio's rice tissues. Even tissue paper and napkins can work as decent blotting sheets. Also I like to bring pressed powder with me just in case my face is too oily for blotting sheets. Rimmel's Stay Matte and Maybelline's Fit me! are both favorites of mine for pressed powders.

Also what foundation are you using? When I first started getting into makeup, I kept on using foundations meant for drier skin types when I should've been getting ones that set to a demi matte finish.

Find a charcoal mask or mask that absorbs oil and use it every night, be sure to moisturize before applying anything, smash box and CoverFX and makeup forever have good mattifying primers, my best suggestion as far as foundations go is Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation from makeup forever

Also a good setting powder and spray, for powders use de-slick mattifying powder from urban decay and my favorite setting spray is MAC Fix +

I have extremely oily skin...use MUFE mattifying primer (step one) and MUFE matte velvet foundation and rimmel stay matte powder. It helps a lot. I also use benefits professional for my big pores ☺️

Use mattifying skincare products or at least products that are targeted for oily skin since they'll help with oil control. I suggest the No7 Beautiful Skin Toner, Day Cream, and Night Cream for Normal/Oily Skin. For primer I highly suggest the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, it's perfect for oily skin and a little goes a long way so you can save money by buying the travel size. For foundation I suggest Estée Lauder Double Wear, medium to full coverage, long wearing, lightweight, and doesn't break down from skin's oils. To set I suggest the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder and Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. For touch ups throughout the day I suggest the MAC Blot Powder. Contrary to popular belief, MAC Fix+ isn't a setting spray so it won't help with the longevity of your makeup.

Get a good compact blotting powder.
MAC has blot powder, NYX has a pressed blotting powder and so does CoverFX I think most brands do. They're a light powder meant to just mattify the face and not add coverage which can make your face more oily and cakey looking.

A pretty good mattifying primer is the Becca one which actually works pretty good and I'm someone that doesn't like face primers cause I usually don't find them helpful on my really oily skin.

Try using a foundation for oily skin. It doesn't have to be "oil-free" I feel like a lot of "oil-free" makeup makes me a lot more greasy looking most the time.

Get one that's mattifying or long wearing.
A few drugstore options are L'orèal pro matte(although I personally don't like it, I know a lot of people do and it worked fairly well or oil)
Another option is the Revlon Colorstay for Oily skin or even the Maybelline Fit Me matte and poreless.
Oh, and the L'orèal true match works pretty good for an oil-free foundation. It kept me quite matte and natural which I loved.

For more higher end I'd recommend the MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof, MAC Studio Fix and studio fix fluid, then there's also the MUFE mat velvet, the CoverFX custom cover drops

Witch hazel is also very helpful. You can get it at mostly any drugstore or pharmacy and you can also use it as a setting spray. It's very natural and it's not harsh on skin. All it does is soaks up your skins oils, but keeps enough so your skin doesn't dry out. Whenever I use it I spray it on before my makeup, let it dry, do my makeup and respray and that should keep you oil free all day!

Oh giiiiirl. Same problem here. And it was frustrating bc I only own high end foundation but I wanted to try out a drugstore foundation for a change so I'm currently using Covergirl's 3in1 foundation and with trial and error, I literally, just Thursday, found the best way to make sure I stay basically oil-free from 12 pm till 8 pm!
I buff in the first layer with a Real Techniques Expert face brush, let it sit then dab it with my Beauty Blender to flaw out any ugly streaks or simply go over to smooth out then follow up again with another layer but this time putting the foundation on places I want more coverage then dab my BB and then press and roll and let it set, and again I go over places I see redness of some sort and then I finally set it all with NYX Finishing powder (:!
I dab a sponge that you can buy anywhere. It's a small, white rectangular looking sponge that some girls use to "Bake" with. So I dab the flat side all over my face, let it sit for about 30 seconds then use a loose powder brush or any not dense brush to take off excess powder.

This finishing powder literally makes a HUUUGE difference! I had dance rehearsals Thursday night for 2 hours after being at school from 12 p.m. and my makeup for once did not look smeared nor blotchy! I was so fudgen impressed (:. And my face didn't look like a grease ball either!

So I'm so happy to say I've finally found a powder that definitely keeps my makeup looking super fresh and light throughout the day (:.

If you aren't already I would suggest using a facial oil at night! Believe it or not it will trick your skin into thinking it is oily therefore creating less oil. I use clarins blue orchid oil for dehydrated skin but I'm sure any good oil will work. My skin is oily but I have dry areas too (from psoriasis) and it definitely helps. Also when you apply your foundation use light layers and blot with tissue or blotting papers straight after to remove any excess oil then apply your powder! Also using a mattifying primer helps a lot, my favourite is soap and glory one heck of a blot, no7 mattifying primer and rimmel stay matte.

These are some tips I've gotten from the ladies here on Beautylish :-)
