Hello, I am a aspiring makeup artist. I have been practicing for a couple of years now, done photo shoots and worked at Sephora. I am looking to expand my education and go to makeup school. I want to learn more about fashion makeup to prosthetics and everything in between. I have searched and looked at a lot of schools, but I'm scared to get scammed. I was looking at Delamar Academy in London, Blanche McDonald in Canada, MUFE NYC Academy, and so forth. I really need help and insight on anyone's personal experience or suggestions! Any help finding a good legit makeup school will be appreciated . Thanks!
Please keep in mind that a make up school certificate is no replacement for good old fashioned experience. Get ahold of modeling agencies & wedding planners & provide some examples of your work. In no time you'll be bringing in biz from word of mouth!
Experience is great and practice makes perfect. Keep learning and keep getting better. Its a never ending process. If you want some help getting your business off the ground, check out http://www.moneymakingmakeupartist.... There are some good free resources and there is a great deal on the January workshop that starts next week!
Thanks everyone for their input. I know experience is key. I don't want to makeup school to get a certificate I just want to learn more(especially prosthetics) about makeup! Thanks again!
I went to Blanche Macdonald, it's pretty good and the instructors are very experienced & talented. I took the full program that covers beauty, fashion, airbrushing, special effects, prosthetics, etc.
Also check out Vancouver Film School, if you want to do special effects/prosthetics then that might be the school for you, they go into depth with that.
One thing to keep in mind what country do you want to work in? In the US if you want to work in film or tv then you will eventually have to join the union so you will want to go to an accredited school such as Joe Blasco, MUD, etc. They will give you a good starting point especially for prosthetics. If you are considering MUFE in NY find out if they are accredited by the State otherwise it won't count for your union application.
I will be starting school in March To become anesthetician. I am very excited but yet very nervous!! Can anybody give me share with me Their experience in school and what they liked about it and what they didn't!? Thank you<3
I attended Cinema Makeup School(Accredited School). If you want to get into SFX work, in my opinion, Cinema Makeup School is one of the best schools in the US. Here's a link to the school if you want to check it out. http://www.cinemamakeup.com/
You could attend MUD (Makeup Designory) I've heard its the Harvard of beauty schools. They are very well known in the makeup/beauty industry. Check them out and see if they have one in your area. http://www.mud.edu
