I think if you apply a primer, then a flesh toned base shadow, then a transition shade, it would be easier to blend out the dark brown color.

If I was you, I wouldn't really start out with eyeshadow as the first thing, as I find that's one of the harder things in makeup. I would start out with mascara, bb cream and a tinted lip balm and then add brow products, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick and so on. That being said, I think basically everyone who does eyeshadow for the first time applies one colour and goes from there, so for now I'd just focus on that colour and try to blend it out as that is probably the most important step when it comes to eyeshadow. Then you can go in with additional colours and move them around so you have a colour in your crease, one above that as a transition shade and one on the moving lid.
