I'm a newbie and just wanted to know what is BB cream? I heard its like a foundation and works wonders for your skin. Could someone also post a pic of the product?

Well, there are drugstore BB Creams, which are more like tinted moisturizers and there are real BB Creams from Asain, etc. which have far more skin benefits then drugstore BB's. ( bb stands for blemish balm or beauty balm, btw ) There is a Maybelline one for $10 i think. The Asain ones are said to be amazing but the downfall is the shade range. I hear the asain ones make you look too pale:( But i definetely think it'd be fun to try one out(: If you want light, very light coverage and something moisturizing definetely try a drugstore BB Cream(:

BB stands for beauty balm, so basically it is a skin perfecter. It hides blemishes and makes your skin look fresh and smooth. I have the maybelline BB cream in light, and I used to love this product. I personally go for a very natural look, and after a while it began to block my pores a bit. I would recommend the L'Oreal BB cream, that works much better.

You can even make your own by mixing foundation and your fav moisturizer cause a bb cream is basically a tinted moisturizer :)

I have both Estée Lauder and smash box - amazing. I tried the witch hazel one but it was a bit flakey. I don't need the coverage of a foundation but the BB creams give a nice dewy finish :)

I love the Skin79 brand of BB creams. Someone posted that this brand was their go-to, and having had less than stellar experiences with the American ones, I decided to give it a shot. I bought the orange one (Super Beblesh Balm-triple functions) and love it! I'm a product junkie and will definitely be keeping this in my makeup bag! The only thing is it might not be the best for darker toned skin. When you pump the product it applies GRAY, but oxidizes to a really beautiful, natural skin tone. It's just really pale (as am I). It's more than a tinted moisturizer though- there's SPF 50, wrinkle protection, it evens skin tone. Skin79 offers different BB creams that do different things while the American versions I tried were basically glorified tinted moisturizers.

Choose a Korean one if you have dry skin, a Japanese one if you are on the oily side. Here are some Bb creams that I love

Agree with Ashley, "western Bb cream" are generally not as long lasting, less coverage, finish is not as flawless, and skincare claims usually have no support. Wish you luck finding a perfect one!

what happens if you have both oily n dry skin? what bb cream would be good?

In that case you might want to switch your skincare routine to prep your skin to use 1 Bb cream; use a lighter moisturizer on oily area (or use mild acne treatment only, like la roche posay effaclar duo), then use a more moisturizing cream in dry area, if not enough, use a hydrating serum beneath. Then apply Bb cream, skin79 pink or la roche posay uvidea melt in Bb are both pretty good for combo skin. Wish it helps!

So could you use bb cream as a foundation?

Jan 17, 2013

Carmen K.

@Ellie: You sure can! It's has very good and long lasting coverage, I often use it without primer or setting power/spray on my combo skin and its last until I take it off.

Ok thats good i have a really light skin tone so do you know a good bb cream brand?

Jan 18, 2013

Carmen K.

@Ellie G: Yes! Plenty.
1. Lightweight & good coverage: Lioele waterdrop (Korean)
2. Organic one: Innisfree Green Tea (Korean)
3. High SPF & light weight: la roche posay uvidea melt in SPF50 (French brand but launched in Japan)
4. Ideal for drier skin, tiny bit greyish undertone but will oxidize: Dr. Jart Silver lable/ Skin 79 Gold (Korean)
5. Oh-so-brightening: Skin79 Snail Nutrition (Korean)
6. All around great, more yellow based: Bison Baby Pink (japanese)

Wish it helps!

@ELLIE G: It's probably hard to find Asian bb cream in brick & motor stores, but you can definately find them online! Good luck!

Basically BB creams are like a tinted moisturiser, except it matches the same colour of your skin tone so that it looks even! Rather than having patches of foundation across your face! If you're looking for a good one I definitely recommend the maybelline BB cream! It blends really well & I have gone back to it 3 times! Hope this helps x
