I just got my first call for doing wedding makeup and said I would charge a $125 base rate on the day, $50 (non refundable) for a consultation just for the bride and $50 for each bridesmaid on the day. she then told me that the other girl she called charges $50 for the bride and each bridesmaid and $20 for consultation.
have I asked for too much? I thought that was normal.

I think your prices are fine! The bride is just trying to haggle with you. She obviously wants to work with you - why else would she mention the other makeup artists' prices instead of simply just going with the other makeup artist, ya know? I think you should stand by your prices because it shows self confidence - in that you value your time and talent, and that you expect others to value it as well. :)

Most makeup artists I know charge $150+ for brides. I think your prices are reasonable!

I personally thing your prices are fine. remember not only are you doing the application, but your an experience that they are paying for. Like Christina said, I would stick with your prices because it shows your confidence, value, and time.

I paid $150 for myself and was supposed to pay $75 for each bridesmaid but when she found out there were 10 bridesmaids and 6 other family members wanting make up they cut me a deal at $50 for each bridesmaid
I feel like that's the standard rate

It's ur skill that they pay for. I paid alot more that than what u're charging (but coz I needed two looks) but I was willing to pay because the MUA was well known, had a great portfolio n I loved her work!

Be careful, because if you refuse to lower even a tiny bit she might go elsewhere and unread of losing $20 you'll lose the whole deal.

Melina...do you go to the grocery store and tell them what you're going to pay for your milk and eggs? No way! You pay the listed price...if you want it cheaper you can look elsewhere
She knows she's worth $125...why should she give her services away?

I think it's a reasonable price. I personally can't imagine paying that much when I could do it myself. But to those who aren't skilled at doing makeup i think it's totally acceptable.

I thought that too ave until the date creeped closer and I realized I couldn't control my three ring circus and get myself dressed so I opted to enlist help lol

I charge a base rate for brides and then an additional charge for any extra treatments she may want on the day, collagen eye mask, gel manicure, eyelash extensions etc. doing bridal is one of my favourite things to do
Jan 10, 2013
Sarah L.
Your prices are very fair. Also take into consideration how much experience you have to back up your prices.

Maybe she'll feel better if you charge her the same thing - but you break it down under titles like 'travel fee', 'kit fee', 'set up fee' etc.
Get creative - and know you're worth it!

Honestly not really. Thats a price that should get you a well job done not a whatever kind of job done

I think your charging too little lol... In my neighborhood brides are charged from 150$ and up! I paid 200$ for my wedding day and I believe it was totally worth it and my bridesmaids 85$ each
