In all honesty, I just want something to set my makeup without me looking ashy on camera. I had thoughts about translucent, but heard stories about it not being photograph friendly for black girls. What do you think?

It boils down to techinque when working with translucent powder on deeper skintones. I find taking a powder puff and pressing the powder into the skin using a rolling motion is best. If I use a brush I find that it just sits on top of the skin giving that ashy look. Colored powder can be applied in the same manner as well. For me I have yet to find a color powder that doesn't oxidize deepening the color of my foundation so I just stick with translucent powders.

I use the NYC translucent powder and it doesn't give that mortuary makeup look in photos, but application plays a part too.
