I just ordered a bunch of shorts from a&f, and I accidentally ordered a 6 instead of a 4 in one pair. They are huge around the waist but fit nice in my legs. Are there any sewing/altering tricks to making the waist smaller? Is that even possible in jeans? Ps: I tried exchanging them but they are out of 4's :(

I would visit a dry cleaners or tailor to see what they suggest.

You could probably take them to a tailor to get them altered - but that might cost as much as the shorts themselves - so another cheap option would be a belt.

If the excess is enough that you can pinch between your fingers then it's a pretty easy fix. You'll need a pretty thick needle if they're denim, if not, a standard needle will do. Turn them inside out and pinch that same amount (or however much you need to make them fit) and make a dotted line (on each side of the pinched portion) so you know where to sew. Sew this portion together with TIGHT stitches. Go over it twice loosely if you can't do a tight stitch. Once it's done, try them on to make sure they're fitting properly. You can cut that seam if they're too tight and try again. Once you have the right fit, cut off the excess (you'll see what I mean when you get there) so that it doesn't dig into your skin. You may want to put some fabric glue on it to keep it from fraying.

I suggested a dry cleaner because they sometimes do it for cheaper. But I may be wrong lol.

What material are they? if they're cotton you may be able to shrink them in the dryer

Thanks! I'm going to see how much a tailor costs and if not, I'll probably ask my grandma to help me! She would love that haha.
