Foundation Help for Discolored Chin.

This is my third attempt at posting this, so here it goes. I am a foundation newbie, as I always had a tough time color matching. I am ethnically Asian with light yellow skin and cool undertones. However, even if I find a very close match to my very yellow neck and chest, if it is just a smidgen lighter, it looks grey and ashy (almost vampire-like). But if it is just a tad darker, it looks ashy still but more of a darker muddy yellow or even orange next to my neck.

Unfotunately, my chin (and even the tops of my forehead) is a bit orange/tan (?) compared to the rest of my light face and neck. And it doesn't help I have acne and hyperpigmentation as well. If there was anything I wanted to really use foundation for, its for my chin.

Please help me as all my attempts for help have come to no avail. Sorry if my ways with color naming aren't that good. But all I want is to have a more even face that matches my neck and chest from time to time, for myself. Thank you guys :)

PS: I have tried foundations with pink/cool undertones, and it is just a mess. It looks glaringly wrong on my face, neck, and chest. For reference, even the Loreal True Match W3 seems too pink and dark on my neck and chest. I have even tried color correcting with green, and it looks even more ghostly.

Your best bet would be to go to sephora or mac and get color matched by an employee they should also be able to help match your skin also you may need to mix foundations in two different colors if you still can't get the right match. but just a heads up this may get deleted as reposts arent allowed here on beautylish at all but I hope I could give you a little bit of advice

I agree with Brianna, I'd visit Sephora and ask an employee to try out a few shades on you.

It's definitely difficult to get olive skin tones just right in a bottle of foundation - but it is possible! I'm odd in that I have an olive skin tone that is medium toned with neutral undertones... So it's really hard to find the perfect shade - everything usually either too light or too dark and I have to compensate with bronzer if it's too light or use a lighter color powder all over if it's you dark - but miss Jacqueline actually was able to color match me perfectly in the MUFE mat velvet - so I would look for shades that have yellow or neutral undertones for you and swatch them on your neck in the store - and you may want to buy 1 lighter and 1 darker shade and just mix them together to get the perfect shade or you can do what I do with bronzer or a lighter powder depending on the issue - hope that helps girl I definitely feel your pain!

Wow, I am so happy with all the helpful advice you guys gave me. Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond, it is very very helpful and insightful.

Jacqueline, you are correct, it should be viewed more like a spectrum. I can never tell if I am olive or not. I feel like maybe around my mouth its more greenish, but that's all I can tell.
I always assumed I was cool toned because of my purple-blue veins in my wrist, and the fact that I do look better in silver.

Sorry if the lighting is not spot on, tried to use sunlight. My neck and chest is pretty much identical to each other, so my neck looks darker purely based on shadows.
If you've ever seen Lisa Eldridge's bare face, mine is very similar to hers. My neck is much more yellow and pale compared to my face, especially my chin. Only difference, is my chin is more orangish tan instead of her red/pink chin.

I tried to reach for more warm toned foundations in hopes of them being yellow enough to color correct my chin and match my neck.

After reading your comment about trying the neutral shade range for the True Match, I went to get the N3 shade as the N2 seemed a bit too light. To my surprise, the N3 and W3 look almost identical on my face, except the W3 is just a tiny bit lighter and more pink. Both do blend in to my jaw, with N3 being the one that blends the nicest. However, they did not match my body at all, as both were way too pink. I did see that the W3 was very similar to NW25, which might explain why it is also quite pink on me.

I am beginning to think my best bet is to be color matched to foundations with wider varieties of lighter foundations preferably with more yellow or yellow beige undertones. And probably mixing 2 foundations together as well.

In regards to color correcting...
even Nic from Pixiwoo mentioned that green correctors were not recommended. I just thought I would put that in, since a lot of people on the web tend to default to suggesting green correctors for acne. But I will definitely check out the yellow and pink correctors.
Does a salmon corrector for the undereye also help correct acne and hyperpigmentation?

Thank you again for all your help. I really do appreciate it!

Yes if you hyperpigmentation looks purple or brown then the salmon can correct for it - I heard that drugstore foundations tend to favor pink undertones and try to pass off yellow undertones with more orange colors - it may or may not be true but I think a high end foundation line like MUFE might be your best bet - I swear they have so many colors to choose from they have to have your shade! And maybe with this photo miss Jacqueline can suggest a good color for you :)

You should totally look up Cover FX makeup. It is a makeup line designed for people with all sorts of different skin issues and I love it because it has a super strong hold and great coverage. They make foundations and cover ups for people with discolored skin, rosacea, and any other things you can think of- you can even customize your own foundation. I have really bad red patches on my face so I've tried this brand before, recommended to me by my aesthetician and I had lots of success, I think it would be worth a try. Hope I helped!

Diana you are the best, thanks for all your help! You are too sweet :) Haha yeah, I definitely have more red to purple acne scars on my Jay Leno chin, love that chin though :P As I have dark circles too, I will definitely add a salmon corrector and maybe even a yellow one to my collection. I will also check out Make up Forever as I hear they have some amazing foundations as well :D
I think you are correct in that the drugstore does favor more pink toned foundations, but they are making an effort to add more variety as of late. However, the whole process of not really allowing testers and stuff just makes it really hard. I think the drugstore is definitely not as kind for women of color, whether you are super light, medium, or very dark. So I've gotten to the point where I do not mind spending more money for a better color match, and hopefully better product.

Sydney, that was really helpful, thanks so much. I really do want to try Cover FX out, I mean they are also cruelty free which is amazing. I have been eyeing the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops for a while now. I think it might be the answer to everything I have been wishing for. Especially after reading all the advice I was given by these awesome ladies.

Have either of you tried the Cover Drops? It looks so promising, I just need to find the shade that I think is the best for me. There is something really appealing about its versatility with products and coverage. Makes me feel like a little scientist :P which I guess could be annoying for some.

Thank you guys so much. I just want to hug you guys so hard :) it really means a lot to me, I am dead serious! This community is the best!

Yes, I actually have the cover drops at the moment and I use them whenever I want to add more coverage to my foundation. Or I even use them by themselves sometime if I just want to cover up a problem area. Personally, I am a fan of the cover drops.

So I went to Sephora today to get color matched and to test the cover drops. I swear the Pantone IQ result is way too dark, I got 4Y07. I was also told my veins were green, but I think if anything they are bluish green. And when the nice girl color matched me with the custom drops it looked slightly darker in store, but she was convinced it was a perfect match. I assume it was the lighting in Sephora, but in daylight it was much darker. I intend to mix the cover drops in my Asian bb creams, which are way too light and grey, but I still think the G40 will still be too dark for me.

Sydney, I'm glad you're a fan. I am a huge fan as well, despite the color being darker, I'm pretty sure the G30 would have been perfect for me. But both were sold out in store and online. So I will just have to be patient and wait. I just love how natural it looks and feels on my skin, even if it was just mixed with moisturizer. I love it!! Told my bf it was going to be my gift to myself lol.
