Hello Beautylishers,
So this summer I kind of want to ombré my hair, yes I know I am basic lol ;)
But really I have never done absolutely anything to my hair as far as coloring it, no highlights or anything. And my hair is naturally wavy/curly, and I want to know If doing the ombré would possibly take the curl out? I work with a girl who bleached her hair and then all of her curls just...stopped curling I guess. And now her hair is just straight.
Just basically give me any details about the damage it could cause, because I would rather have my waves than ombré.

It could possible do that. I severely damaged my hair about a year ago and it ruined my curls but now that my hair is getting healthy again they're starting to come back. if you don't bleach your hair correctly or do too much damage at one time yes it can kill your curls but they can possible get better. just make sure your stylist knows how to deal with curly hair.

It's possible depending on how your hair reacts to the bleach and how much they lift it (and with what amount of peroxide, 10,20,30,40) etc. It's only your first lighten right? If so you'll be alright, it'll take a little more then just one bleach to really damage your hair, my only advice would be to make sure you get a trim particularly if you notice your hair feels a little bit like elastic after it's been bleached. I honestly think you should be okay though :) I bleached my hair yesterday and my curls are still curly however it is a little frizzy, you'll need lots of moisturising treatments and perhaps some argan/maroccan oil to use on your hair whilst it dries after you wash it or anything :)

Thanks so much Justine and Shaye! Shaye I'm glad you answered because I know you dye your hair a lot :)

Haha you're welcome :) I have ruined my hair before and only recently it's natural texture has come back so dying it a lot can definitely effect these things lol :) you're safe though haha, just keep your hair happy afterwards :)

Dude...my hair was curly af before I put the ombre in and now it's like kinda curly/wavy...so sad now. I mean I loved the ombre but I'm kinda getting tired of it and I'm missing my bouncy curls!! I haven't tried any hair treatments yet,, I have an argan oil one that I bought months ago!reading Shayes post makes me wanna run and do it now!! lol

The last time I applied a hair color to my curly mane...years ago...it definitely changed my curl pattern. Especially the first three months. After that it slowly came back. Now I'm eyeing going with some purple hair color and I decided to go the professional route and work with a stylist who specializes in coloring curly hair (as they are more versed in using hair color products that are more curly girl friendly) instead of DIY.

Thank you ladies a lot. I will have to find a person who is good with my hair type. I'm definitely not DIYing! That could only end badly lol

I have naturally curly wavy hair.. my hair has been through hell and back with color thanks to beauty school. I actually just ombred my hair and while its still wavy I noticed its not as wavy as my non bleached hair. Although if you have never colored your hair before they should just use color n not bleach. Thats a bit less damaging.

It all depends what is used to achieve the color and how much damage you place on your hair my hair has been through a lot and my curl pattern is still the same and its because I take care of it after and during the coloring process.
