Try a nail strengthener I've heard good thing bit haven't tried garlic polishes.

Try massaging a bit on Argon oil onto your fingernails. It will help soften and strengthen them. Wipe any excess from your fingertips with toilet tissue and let the argon oil soak slowly into your nails.

It sounds like you already have strong nails but they need a bit of moisture. without moisture they have no bend, so any trauma causes them to crack far down. Rebecca is right about oil this will help massively, you could also try olive oil ;)
