Hey girls I have resolved not to buy makeup for 6 months as I am saving up for &1,300 kitten as a gift to myself for finishing my masters degree this summer. I always feel confident that I can do it until I see something I want and obsess over it 😁 any tips??

When you go out shopping don't go to the makeup aisle as much as possible. also use this time to use up some of the makeup you already have that way it doesn't just sit there.

Congratulations on the degree and good luck saving for the kitten. Don't read the makeup blogs. That's how I end up spending a fortune.

The only way I can not spend a dime on make up is to avoid it altogether, sending strength your way! And congrats!

Thanks for the support! Luckily it's my birthday tomorrow so I can pick up the nars lippie birthday gift this month ;-)

When new stuff comes out, we naturally all want to be the first to try it, and we want to try it ASAP. But if you can remind yourself that you've been able to get along perfectly fine with what you've got, and that what's brand new now will likely be on sale in six months, it becomes much easier to put off paying top dollar for what you know in your heart you can do without. I have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to shopping (of all kinds!) and I've found this trick to be really helpful when I need to talk myself out of buying the very latest thing. Very good luck!!

It's a tough decision to make when it comes to saving money. As for me, I'm currently on a no buy of makeup cos I'm into buying new furnitures and home decors. I blame it to pinterest. Lol. Yes, I'm obsess in beautifying my house. When I want something so bad, I try to avoid going to stores and try not visit the shopping apps on my phone. I watch my fav shows or go for a walk just to divert my attention to any temptations. And I'm proud of myself as I have achieved that. I recently bought furnitures and decors. Among these are my sectional, cabinets and coffee/side tables. Everytime I see the things I saved up and bought, it makes me happy and inspired to save money again for my next project.

Well, I took a month off for makeup buying in Feb and here's what helped:

1) keep a wishlist in microsoft word of stuff you want, so that when you can buy again, you will have an idea of priorities, etc. Sometimes just putting stuff on the list, satisfies a part of that aquisitive thing with me. Also, I realize looking at my wishlist that a lot of the stuff is similar to what I already have, or that my craze to get it has faded.

2) Stay off beautylish. I don't want you to leave, but it really, really helped to not look at this site for a month.
3) unsubscribe from Sephora insider, drugstore.com deals, any and all email spam that will tempt you to online shop.
4) stay out of the makeup section at the drugstore. And the grocery store. I found myself looking at EOS in line at Target, going, well it's just lipbalm, that shouldn't count. But nope, it's makeup and if I already have lipbalm I don't need one that smells like strawberries or whatever. I basically avoided stores that sold makeup as much as possible.
5) Dig out makeup you haven't used in a while. I rediscovered an old quad that I hadn't used in over a year. I never liked it because I really had to scrape to get the shadow out of the pan, but once it's on the brush, it's decent shadow and the shades are really lovely. I'd spent a ton of money on it and never liked it so it was kind of nice to actually get some use out of it.
Good luck! I hope this helps.
