I use the makeup I generally don't like to play around with makeup in the night, trial and error for looks to wear. That way I'm not wasting my good makeup that I generally have the same colors off. I also use pink/peach/and plummy eye shadows that don't apply well on my eye, but are decent blushes!
I give mine to my mam! domestic violence centre, I'd have never thought of that what a lovely idea. I want to become more altruistic in my local community going forward. and thats a nice place to start
my friend tosses the make-up but keeps the container and pours nail polish in lets them dry and gives it to little girls ages 8 and under for pretend makeup. very genius
Eye shadow- you can mix different shadows in a small container which will make new colors or you can mix your eye shadow with clear nail polish... Powders for your face and bronzers make great nude nail polishes!
Lipsticks- you can melt lipsticks down by scooping it out of the tubes then putting the spoon over a candle. put the melted lip stick into a tiny container and since they are liquidy you can mix different colors to make a new shade!
If you buy something at Sephora and you don't like it, you can return it. All makeup has a shelf life once it's opened. I throw away old makeup. Once it's old, it's gone. If I get something like an eyeshadow or a blush that I don't like ...and I don't return it, I just give it to a friend. Mascara, once used by you or anyone else, cannot be given to someone else.
Oh my goodness these are all fantastic ideas. I usually throw old makeup out or make art with it. Eyeshadow gives a soft ethereal look when used to color in an ink drawing, for instance (use fixative after, of course). Not sure if the longevity is as nice as artist quality pigments, but nothing I've done has faded yet.

If its so old that it's expired, I'll toss it out. But if it's old and still wearable, i give it to my sister.
