I love my red hair, but it's such a pain to keep it vibrant red, I can handle this, but my red hair stains everything including my pillow cases, shirts, neck (even after the day I dyed it and later on), everything :/, it is really annoying and I am really fed up with this.

Do you experience the same issue or do you perhaps know a trick that I don't know to avoid this?
I am using hicolor in magenta once per 3 month therefore I am using a semi-permanent dye (to avoid the damage a bit) to refresh the color, I am using Ruby Red from Sally's.

I am really desperate, please help :(

Your hair colour stains things even when it's dry? I've never heard of that before. I find my red hair colour still runs when I get it wet in the shower for about 1-2 weeks. I use a permanent hair dye and I've used a semi permanent toner but I've never had it stain anything when it's dry.

Yes, that is the problem even if it's dry my shirt for example is getting stained. Perhaps is because of the semi- permanent dye I use? I am not too sure, but it's driving me mad :/ Can I ask what kind of semi permanent dye are you using and the toner so I can try it myself? thanks hun.

How often do you refresh the color with semipermanent dye? And when you refresh it, do you rinse in cold water until the water runs clear?

Many veggie dyes can bleed and stain while wet. Some don't hold onto the cuticle of the hair as well. It's basically just coating it. So when it gets wet, it's basically just sliding off. A vinegar rinse can help. And try a different semi permanent red. Like manic panic or special effects. Each color will bleed differently and you'll have to experiment with which one works with your hair. But you'll find one that works :)

Hey Jack B, I refresh the color with semipermanent dye once per month I would say as otherwise it's getting really orange at the ends. I do use cold water almost all the time, well to be honest I don't rinse it until the water is clear as I have a feeling that it will never be clear, it's bleeding heavily after I dye it with semi-permanent. I am using this semi- permanent dye: http://www.salon-services.com/ion-colour-flash-semi-permanent-pcolour172rubyred/.

Alyx T. That is a good idea, I always used this one from Sally's basically because it was easier for me to buy it from them, but will definitely try another brand to see if that will work differently. Hm I will try the trick with vinegar, are you using any kind of vinegar or it has to be like apple vinegar? or something like that? Thanks a lot

Manic panic is available at most Sally's :)

And nope! Just regular vinegar. I usually do a full glass of vinegar and put it in a spray bottle and rinse my entire hair with it after rinsing the dye out from my hair. But if you don't like to smell, a 1:1 ratio or even a 1:2 vinegar-water ratio will help it. When your hair is soaked, leave it for a few minutes then rinse. Don't shampoo. The smell goes away before its dry. :) hope it helps!

Ah thanks hun, I will try this trick next time I am going to dye my hair, unfortunately at the sally's near me in uk they don't have manic panic but I might order it next time online perhaps if it' s a better.

You could also try directions. That seems easiest to get in the states and works well for most. :)

If you have any questions in the future about it feel free to ask on my profile and I'll try my best to help

I used garnier nutrisse cream hair dye which is permanent. I don't know what brand the toner is because I geg it done professionally but even though it's not permanent I've never had a problem with it staining when its dry. it just stains my towel after a shower but when I put it into the wash all the colour washes out. maybe if you try a permanent dye and make sure the water in the shower runs clear as you wash it out then hopefully it won't stain.

Thank you Shauna, I will definitely try another dye, as I thought it's normal, but I can see now that is not :P.
