Whitening strips do work but make your teeth very very sensitive.
I prefer a at home teeth whitening system called smile brilliant.

I really like the glo toothpaste they sell at sephora. It has antioxidants in it to help fight off free radicals (supposedly). I noticed a great change in my first week of using it! It's like 6 dollars a tube.

I've always had good results with Crest Strips. They have different levels of strength. Then I use a whitening toothpaste in the AM & an enamel protecting toothpaste at night. Years & years of brushing & using whitening products can thin out your teeth enamal making it a little transparent. When you're teeth become transparent, the natural yellow tint INSIDE the tooth can show through giving your teeth a yellowish tint AND making your teeth more sensitive. I usually use the strips about every other year. So I don't want my teeth to be sensitive when I do use the strips.

You can try the classic baking soda and lemon juice, it gives you pretty instant results but it is bad for your teeth I have only done it twice and it was when I had a photoshoot I wasn't prepared for.. do its up to you if its worth it, I know that's what my friend does every week. (:
