I have the hardest time painting my own fingernails. It has gotten to a point where I don't even attempt; instead I get gel nails and pedicures so I don't have to bother. Any suggestions? I hate that my nails are being ruined by manicures.
I'm on the same page! I feel like there's something wrong because all these other girls have gorgeous nails and I can't even paint my opposing hand! Haha
it takes alot of practice start off painting your nail with small strokes on the top then go all the way down if it gets on your skin by the nail not to worry that happens to everyone just continue painting your nails and after they are dry take a q-tip and acetone and take the extra nailpolish thats on your skin off.
That used to happen to me a lot. Just a lot of practice. Now I can do it and they look amazing. Try twice a week to paint your nails with a lot of pacience and relax, with time you'll get better painting your nails.
I always seem to find that I cannot make the thickness of the polish the same. Every time I paint my nails I have thin spots of polish that is nearly see through. How do you fix that?
I have looked up so many videos. Sad part is, I'm excellent at painting other peoples finger nails, just not my own. Does anyone know of guides (stickers or utensils) that help prevent polish from getting all over your skin?
To avoid the uneven paint thickness all you have to do is watch how much you have on your brush. When you wipe the side of the brush on opening of the bottle you have to wipe a little off the tip of the brush when you paint the sides of your nail. YouTube really has great videos though that will explain things a lot better then reading directions.
I find it easier to first paint my right hand first. If you paint your left nail first. This way you can end painting your nails with your strong hand. This really helps me :)
This is ridiculous to some people, but sometimes I tape the skin around my nail before I paint it so I don't get any paint on it. Then I don't have to worry about cleaning it up afterwords.
Also try different brands, they have different consistencies and you can find the one that you can apply evenly the best :)
Honestly, it just takes practice. I've tried all of those Vaseline and tape tricks, but they never work for me. Hopefully you'll have better luck with them than I do!

tape ! put clear tape on the skin near your nail and then just paint them that way when you take the tape off the paint will be on it and no mess

Just keep practicing. I've been painting my own nails since I was 7 or 8. But my mom is amazing at painting nails so maybe it's in my blood.
