So I'm looking for my first foundation to try, but I don't know where to start. I want a light coverage that looks natural. Nothing too expensive, and if you have a favorite brush for applying foundation, I'd love to know what it is :) thanks in advance!

By not too expensive do you mean drugstore or cheaper high end makeup, Because I hate drugstore foundation. Even if you do mean drugstore I think Urban Decay naked skin would be.worth the "investment" seeing as its not too pricey.
For a brush I love my beauty blender but.sometimes I will also use my real techniques buffing brush

I agree with Ashley UD naked is very nice and to top it off there is a drugstore product that runs quite close to it Revlon Nearly naked is very impressive.I also like Givenchy photo perfexion, Ellis fass veil, Too faced BB creme, Rimmel match perfection.I use a flat paddle Foundation brush :) I have a few from different brands but lately I've been enjoying the Flower cosmetics flat paddle brush,it surprised me how well it's made and smooth it makes the application.

I think Ulta may sell it but I know that Sephora definitely sells it, you can also get it on the beauty blender site.

I really like Pixi H20 Skin tint. It's $24 and you can get it Target. It's a gel tinted moisturizer. It has light to medium coverage and it looks very natural and dewy. The only issue is it doesn't come in a lot of shades. They have testers at Target so you can see if you like the texture/coverage. It works really well with a flat kubuki brush like the Kashuk #4. It uses a really small amount of product and I do my foundation very quickly this way.

I recommend UD Naked skin($39) if you have normal/oily skin.
Rimmel match perfection.($5) (I have oily skin and don't mind it, but it's a pretty dewy finish foundation)
Garnier bb cream.($9-$12, depending on where you buy.) (has two formulas for normal/oily, normal/dry)
To apply my foundations with my Sonia Kashuk No. 4 multipurpose brush ($15)

I'd start with a BB Cream or my favorite drug store is True Match. Cheap, medium coverage. I think it really depends on your skin type! Are you more oily or flakey and dry? We can probably recommend a great product if we knew that!
