Hi guys! So I know it's been a while since I've posted but in the last few months I've been really working on my nails. They all broke off in August, and since then I've been focused on growing them out and keeping them strong. This is a two part post discussing my current nail polish obsession and how I keep them healthy and long :)

First of all, currently on my nails is OCC's nail polish in Belladonna. I love this for so many reasons!

The first reason is that it is a really beautiful color, I was expecting a pastel purple but it's really bright and lovely.

The second reason is that it's a really nice, super opaque shade that took two coats to be completely solid. It's a great formula, it's super easy to work with, and it goes on incredibly smoothly. It's also nice because it has a thicker brush so that it only takes two strokes to evenly cover your whole nail. It's also not a very flexible brush so it's easy to be precise and not get any on the surrounding cuticle, which makes any clean up that you'd have to to extremely quick. This whole manicure took me about 25 minutes this morning and then I was out the door! I have three other OCC polishes and they all share these same attributes, I'm not sure why I haven't worn them in such a while, they're one of the best formulas I have. I'll definitely be breaking them out.

Now, onto my nail care. I'm extremely hard on my nails, and they're thin and flexible, which translates to easily torn and hard to keep polish on. What I've found works for me is applying a cuticle oil and hand cream whenever I'm thinking about it. After washing dishes? Yep. Before I go to sleep? Absolutely. When I'm just sitting around watching Gossip Girl reruns? You bet. Personally, I use the RMS Beauty Lip and Skin balm. I got this initially to use as a lip balm, but it's a little bit too thin for my liking on the lips. So, I played around a bit and ended up dabbing some on my cuticles. It worked like a charm! Now, whatever oils I happen to have around like RMS Raw Coconut Cream, Biossance oil, Josie Maran Argan Oil...all of those go on my cuticles.

Afterwards I'm always sure to follow it up with a hand cream that's very occlusive (has some sort of sealing properties in it) to make sure that the oil really sinks into my cuticles and keeps them hydrated and nice looking. Personally, I detest the look of ragged cuticles and try to take good care of mine. For me, this includes trimming them every few weeks or so with a pair of cuticle nippers. Some people advise against this, some people are all for it, but for me it works extremely well and helps keep my hands looking put together. Immediately before and after trimming my cuticles, I apply an oil to keep them soft so that I don't hurt myself by cutting living skin rather than dead skin.

Another little thing I do is never peel off my manicures. As soon as I get a chip I take it all off and repaint them. Why shouldn't you peel? Because the polishes adhere to your natural nail and when you peel them off, you're also peeling a layer of your nail off, weakening it. So as soon as I get all of my nail polish off, I immediately repaint my nails so that they're not too long without polish. When my nails go too long without polish they get extremely flakey and start ripping. Keeping polish on them helps keep them stronger and prevents them from bending or tearing (for the most part).

Anyway, those are my little nail care tips, plus a bonus mani picture in case you guys want to see what they look like now :) hope y'all are having a wonderful day!

Anytime, Danielle! I got so tired of my nails breaking all the way off every few weeks that now I'm doing everything I can to keep them nice! And thanks Alma I got it from here actually and it's my new favorite purple!

Your nails look so good! That color is beautiful. Thanks for all the nail care tips. I'm trying to grow mine again as I broke about 5 of them last week so I just decided to trim them all even.

Oh no, Taylor, that sucks! I completely understand, I used to go through that all the time. I hope my tips can be somewhat helpful to you, then :)

My job is a cleaner so I go around cleaning offices. My hands and nails haven't been great for the past 3 years since I started the job with all the scrubbing and water my hands have to handle. This has opened my eyes, you don't need that many products just keeping it simple with a few things can make a huge difference!

Thanks for this Hannah! I have the exact same issues when it comes to my nails and its so discouraging, but this gives me motivation! One day they'll grow and be thick!!

Thank you Hannah. Love this colour and your nails in general! To tell the truth, I am used to trusting to professionals in this issue. As I live in Ibiza, I use mobile nail services http://nail-it-europe.com/blog/finishes/IBIZA-S-LUXURY-MOBILE-SERVICE/. These guys always know how to please me:)
